Wilt (Jabbar)
Malone (Duncan)
Bird (Baylor)
Jordan (West)
Johnson (Robertson)

I could be wrong, but I doubt it.

[/ QUOTE ]

That's my list, and you're right...Pippin ain't easy (but Rodman, Jordan better defenders). Dr. J over Baylor, I know Elgins stats rule, but...1. Watch the classic highlights, he doesn't dunk, just sort of shoots on the way down and they call it hangtime, BFD. 2. LA Clippers.

If you're talking about championship rings won, then Russell was the most dominant. But Wilt was the better player. Per game : pts 30 reb 22 fg% 54
Russell per game : pts 15 reb 22 fg% 44

Not disputing Russell's greatness. He is the consummate leader and winner. But over the years Russell's great team success translated into Wilt being branded a "loser". Very unfair.

The two easiest answers are Wilt at center and Jordan at SG.

But Clark's list is the best so far. I might nitpick with Shaq against Jabbar, Dr. J against Baylor, or whatever. But the starting 5 is perfect.

All the people who aren't putting Wilt at center are idiots. Again, 29 and 29 against Russell. Once led the league in assists, I believe. Easily the best center ever.

This is so true. That Bulls team without Jordan was predicted to finish below .500. Pippen was clearly the MVP of the league that year and in true NBA fashion, it was Robinson's turn to win the "career achievement MVP award". That was ALL Pippen and only a horrific call by Hugh Hollins stopped the Bulls from likely winning a championship WITHOUT Michael.

Pippen may well be the best defensive player ever.

[/ QUOTE ]

Pippen the best defensive player ever? I can name five in the league right now that play better D.

Pippen MVP of the league that year? Did you even watch basketball then?

Talking about his Portland days would be like downgrading Hakeem for his stint in Toronto.

[/ QUOTE ]

Wrong.

And nobody forgets this season I can remember almost every game, seriously. Pippen was non-existent in the clutch most of the time--that is when great players thrive.

I'll hazard a guess that there were one dimensional players in all eras of basketball.

[/ QUOTE ]

Especially with the influx of European players it is safe to say there are MORE all around players now.

Just think how sweet MJ would've looked beating up on crappy Euros his entire career, too.

I thought Run-TMC was Tim Hardaway, Mitch Richmond, and Chris Mullin.
