Re: anyone fold the river
Joker - I think you’re stuck calling here, and for a couple of reasons.
(1) I think there probably is a better chance than one in nine that your opponent, whether clueless or a knowledgeable poker player, doesn’t actually have a full house. (The _reason a clueless player might bet without a full house is probably different from that of a knowledgeable player). (2) The more you fold to bets like this one, the “weaker” your skilled opponents will tend to perceive you. If they think you fold too often without the nuts, they’ll look for opportunities to exploit your non-tenacious play. Thus even when folding would have saved you one bet in any particular case, folding on the river in Omaha-8 has negative connotations and may end up costing you many pots in the future when you are bluffed out of similar situations. (3) Although not a primary reason for calling, a side benefit of calling, and one that may enable you to play better against this opponent in the future, is by calling you get to see all of your opponent’s cards. Thus you may gain insight into your opponent’s thinking process and the cards your opponent considers bettable in different situations. Buzz |
