Default Defeating Chasers...how do you outbid them?

This was bothering me...i was in a headsup and i noticed my opponent chased just about anything...now...so what do i do on the betting?

Do i try to outbid him before he can see the turn or the river?

Or do i milk him and hope for the best?

I know determining the opponents out compared to your outs is crucial...but how many outs for them do you find worth milking and worth outbidding them so they cant see that river

Here's a test. You have AQ. He has Q5. The board is QT2, one spade on the board. The pot is 4.5 SBs (you raised preflop, he was the BB). Do you want him to call?

IF hes calling no matter what, you cant "outbid" him.

Bet for value, if you think youve got the best hand, bet or raise. If you are unsure but the chances you have the best hand compare favorably with your pot odds, call him down. If you've got junk and you dont have the pot odds to draw out on him, fold.

Yeah, I originally wrote "he has Q5, even make them spades..."

Obviously I forgot to take the spade out of the board.

It depends, how does he chase? Does he fold the river if he misses? or on the turn? Does he put in random raises or raise a lot on draws?

You might want to get involved in pots with hands that have or are likely to have a lot of showdown value. Aces, Kings with broadway kickers, pairs, and whenever you get involved in a pot with the chaser, just be prepared to fire all three barrels after the flop, and go to a showdown regardless of the action.

But it depends on how the chaser plays, and if you can figure out how they play, you should be able to figure out exactly what plays will put them at the biggest disadvantage.

Good luck,
play well,

Bob T.

If you are playing limit, you want to get as much money in the pot as you can because you are ahead. If he is just calling and obviously drawing to a bigger hand than yours, be prepared to reevaluate if a scare card hits.

If you are playing no limit/pot limit, you want to bet the maximum you can that he will call (and give him incorrect/bad odds for his draw). Everytime he calls with a worse hand while getting incorrect/bad odds to make his hand, you are making money.
