I have been very curious about this too. It seems that alot of good players are playing 6-max. Can you guys explain why you like it more. I am sure alot of people would love to hear what you have to say.

If you have an advantage, the more times you can apply it per hour, the better.
Course, it works the other way too... |

SH is great for increasing your thoughts/hand ratio - which makes the game more fun. Early on it will improve your overall game alot faster than playing ring, and later on you can often expect an increased profitability vs. playing ring-games (both due to more hands, and more decisions made with an overall edge). Try it out, you'll probably enjoy it.

I play four ring tables comfortably, how many do the experienced six-seat guys play? Because you are involved in more hands at a faster pace do you have to cut down the number of tables you play?
And does your win rate rise per 100 hands or are you just playing more hands per hour at the same rate? |

I play 5 max, but it's pretty much the same as six max.
I usually play 1-2 tables at a time, action is too fast IMO for more. I'll play one if the kids are around, wife is around etc, and I'm more likely to be called upon during my session. I play 2 when I know I will be uninterupted. I have only been tracking my last 6K hands or so, but I'm up about 10BB/100. I know it's not reasonable to continue, but I feel it makes me a sucsessfull player Why I like 5 max 1. Easier to get player reads, more hands, quicker hands, less players 2. I play at lower limits, and couldn't stand the 7 to a flop you might see at the full ring games 3. Your "good hands" hold up more often. If I flop a set, I'm less worried about it running into a river straight, as maybe one or 2 are going to the river with me. So If I'm ahead, I know I'm ahead, and if I'm behind I know most of my outs are clean 4. It's faster and more fun (IMO) Why I don't like 5 max 1. 2 players leaving and being replaced means half the table has turned over 2. Game can get really short handed really quickly (5 max can easily become 2 or 3 max) 3. People come in for hit and runs more I think. They play like 5 hands, win 2 and leave. I'm like WTF? Anyways - IMO the good outweights the bad |

I'm sure many do this, but I can't 4-table the 6 max games. At three tables I need to break after 1.5-2 hrs, 2 tables is optimal for me in terms of getting reads while not getting bored. I can only play a single table if I'm doing something else (working/reading) at the same time, lest I start playing too many hands.
Thing I like most about 6 max vs. full ring is the huge reducting in schooling. |
