You are missing the strategic gains of 3 betting the turn. If you are 4 bet by anyone here except a VERY aggressive player, you are beat and you have no chance of winning a showdown unimproved. This 3 bet gives you information as to the SB's holding and makes you more money when you can squeeze another bet on the river. So, yes, while 3 betting and folding to a fourth bet technically costs the same as calling it down, it is much more profitable if you have the discipline to fold to a fourth bet. Thunder is right when he says that calling, as a general rule, is poor poker.

At low limits, getting three bets tells me that my opponents has any two cards. "Information" is simply not that valuable...
2BB for a showdown or
2BB for a possibly erroneous, and terribly expensive laydown. I'm sorry, but I believe Thunder is way off on this. Your explanation sounds like FPS--the "big laydown," which I try to disdain in favor of the "cheap showdown."
Regards.

Oh...PS---added edit--there is the off chance that you spike the winning river card. Folding to a three-bet and seeing that aces would make ME feel more foolish than usual. You MAY still be drawing live.
