I find that in general women are viewed as inferior players that can be pushed around, but if she shows down just one or two good hands she'll immediately be given too much respect and dealt with as if she's a rock.

I agree with this response more than any of the others (not that I disagreed with any of the others, I just found this one to be the "most" true, in my case).

I play the gender card pretty hard, because I can. If I'm at a table where crusty old dudes will implicitly collude, then I decide to be a man. I am masculine looking enough to pull this off, most of the time, as long as I don't speak.

Although I love that some men think women can't play, and definitely could never be dealt aces or any other premium hand, I would rather have a couple of callers than nine. So I become a man.

When there is a guy or two at the table who tangles with any woman all the way to the river, I definitely try to convince him to keep doing so. I will put on little acts to reinforce him that he is correct, women definitely don't know how to play poker, and never bluff. While I don't outright lie, I commiserate and let him keep thinking whatever he wants, as long as I get every chip in front of him.

If I am at a table where showing down premium hands convinces the men that I am a rock (I am), and they start respecting my bets and raises too much, I begin bluffing as often as I can get away with it, while trying to reinforce to them that I really am a rock, I'm just "getting lucky" with so many premium hands.

This kind of game only works with poor opponents, but it does work.

Good players will know better, but if she's a B&M newbie, I expect she'll be playing small stakes a fair bit. There are fairly few really good players at those tables in Vegas. Tell her to concentrate on her game, but assume that until she actually shows what she is doing, the guys will think her a moron. Once she shows she is not, they will think she is a rock.

I think Dr. Al gives some of the best advice on this. My understanding of what he says is, not to manage table image, but just be aware of it and exploit it.

If I see a woman who acts confidently and quickly, then I ignore her gender. Otherwise, I assume she doesn't play well until I see signs to the contrary.

BTW - if your wife is attractive, she can really play that to her advantage if she's at all outgoing. Look how much attention Erin Ness got from her WSOP appearance, and she was only cute.

Oh yeah, an if she wears something tight and braless, the cold casino air will create an effective distraction for those of us who are relatively new at casinos, which can be used to her advantage.

Women are seen by most as tight and passive players.

The player with the A also made a horrendous mistake by going 20 bets.

Obviously the guy with the Ace made a big mistake, but I think that it should be obvious the woman with the king made the bigger mistake.

LOL, about 2 years ago, my friends came over to my place and celebrated my birthday. Halfway through the night after some drinking, party games, my friends asked me what I wanted to do and I said, let's play some texas hold'em poker.

So 8 of us, 5 girls and 3 guys played for very small amount of $10 each and winner take all. None of the girls knew how to play poker at all, so we had to spend an hour teaching them hands and practicing it till they got the hang of it.

Well believe it not, me and my 3 buddies got eliminated first. I got caught on my final hand missing an open ended draw and one of the girls blurted out louded, "Lawrence, I know you are bluffing! I CALL!" She called me with jack-high.

I could never read them on any hand, they were playing any 2 cards and just running the table like pros. And then they were also saying, "Ted, why are you raising me? You are sooooo mean." Moral of the story: Women make good poker players.

I'm married to a good looking blonde. She gets a lot of "attention" and offers of "help" when she sits down at the table. I have to play at a different table so that I don't get tempted to beat up other players trying to hit on her.

Last trip to Vegas some guy starts trying to "help" her and give advice. He says, "now don't look at your hole cards repeatedly, or other players will know you don't have a pair, because anyone can remember a pair" [especially a strong pair]. A hand is dealt, she has pocket cowboys and keeps looking at them and raising to the River [having made a set on the flop]. She wins the pot, and looks over at the helper and says, "I had trouble remembering I had pocket kings, do you think anybody noticed." He did not say another word to her the rest of the game.

After the game her and I went to a titty bar and smoked cigars

I don't make assumptions about anyone until they show me something.

As a general rule, I find that women at the table are either very good, or very bad - not much in between. I don't mean this in any degrading manner as I'm sure there are plenty of decent women players out there - it's just what I've seen so far.

Tell her to sit down and play solid poker - you're probably right that she has a bit of an advantage over most "avg." men.

My girlfriend plays with me frequently, although we play at different limits, and often different games.

She often becomes irritated by men's, particularly older men's, need to give her advice when she is usually one of the better players at the table.

1 story, she was at the final table of a tournament, had 27o in the BB. Checked her option, flopped a boat, and lost when her slowplaying opponent hit his Ace on the river. The player to her left told her she played the hand badly, that she should've folded out of the BB with no bet to her since she could "only get in trouble" with that hand.

Comments like this piss her off, since she feels (and I think correctly) that this man would not have said something like that to me or another male.
