Default First trip to Vegas

Hi folks. This weekend (Sat-Mon) I'll be in Vegas for the first time ever. I'm looking forward to it, but had some questions..

We're staying at the Bellagio. I'm assuming that the poker there will be good... fair assumption? I've been to AC several times, almost always playing at Borgata, and with good 3/6 success and some NL tournament winnings.

1. Is there 3/6 limit HE at Bellagio? 4/8? (4/8 is about as much as I'd care to stretch my bankroll)

2. Any rules or just customs differences between Vegas limit HE and what I've been playing in Atlantic City?

Thanks!
John

you won't find 3/6 at the Belagio and you can wait a long time just to get a seat at any of their limits. I suggest walking down the street to the Mirage where I have always had an excellent time at their 3/6 tables and usually not wait more than a few minutes to get a seat. For 4/8 I would suggest the Mandalay Bay. Both professional run card rooms.

Bellagio spreads 4/8, and although the wait list can be quite long, there's a lot of tables going so it moves decently quickly. However, during the busiest times, the wait can still be 1 - 2hrs. I suggest getting there early. Since you are staying there, that should not be a big problem. Mirage has 3/6 that's also good, although that can have a long wait list as well. Monte carlo also spreads a 4/8 with 1/2 blinds that's worth checking out. Their poker room, however, is not smoke free. I've never played at Mandalay bay, but it's too far to walk IMO. I'd just stick with Bellagio and Mirage. You really can't go wrong.

Depends on the day, but for a holiday weekend, I suspect pretty early. The busiest time is obviously during the evening (8pm - midnight). I think it shouldn't be too bad in the early afternoon (< 4pm).

Last time I was there (May) I signd up for 8/16 at 4:30 on a Thursday afternoon and the wait was over an hour and a half. I hate that place! But the games are very good

how much are the rooms there? my wife wanted to stay there in a room facing the fountains outside but as little time as we spend in the room its always hard for me to pay 150+ for a room in vegas. we are going in november. havent been in a few years. i noticed the new tram goes right past the sands. i might check and see if they have any good deals. sleep there then catch th train to the other casinos. is this as easy to do as it looks on paper?

sorry. i meant sahara not sands.

When I was last there, there were usually only 2 8/16 games going on at the busy times. The 4/8 list is longer but goes much faster. If you have the roll (and skill) for it, the 15/30 and higher are the way to go. There were usually 4 or more 15/30s and 30/60s spread and the wait lists weren't too bad (at least compared to 4/8 and 8/16).

I was planning on doing a similar thing on my next trip... stay at the sahara or strat and ride the tram down to the main strip... then I heard the tram stops running at midnight, which would be pointless for meas i am almost never back in by midnight.... guess i could always plan on playing till about 11:45, catch the tram and hit up the sahara game.

thanks for the info. that does change things! can anyone confirm this? thanks. fyi when i looked at the map it looked like it didnt go anywhere near the strat. it looks like it curves in the oposite direction right after the sahara. i stayed at the strat last time and it was great and cheap(45$ i think). this was before the monorail. i wouldnt stay there again though just because all the action is at the other end of the strip. those cab rides added up back then. it was july so we tried the free trolly once and it wasnt a very enjoyable experience melting in the desert waiting for that bad boy.
