The rooms are so-so. The buffet is horrible considering the nearby competitiors. The only place other than krispy-kreme to eat is sir galahad's prime ribs house very tasty, very affordable. Don't pass up the 2-10 limit game either.

One hint try the breakfast buffet at paris one time, tell me what you think

"-is there a pool? is it indoor?"

The pool is outdoors, and it's good but not great. It you just want to sit out in the sun and have a drink, it's fine. If you want a swank scene with full of beautiful people, go elsewhere.

Overall, the rooms aren't bad, but there's something a little weird about the faux middle ages motif. But the price and poker are good enough that I'm going back there this weekend.

I stayed at Treasure Island a few months ago. They had a great rate during the week. No poker, but surprisingly nice rooms and a great pool.

On the cafe... certain items are genuinely good, certain others genuinely bad. It's a matter of taste and of having eaten there enough times to know what is edible. Other cafes in vegas are certainly better, no doubt.

The bacon cheeseburger was great when I had it -- and the service at 4AM was pretty fast. If you're staying at Excal, be sure to call the poker room in advance to arrange a discount rate... they cut me a deal of about 20% off.

You might want to consider the No Limit tables there, too... I know Al Capone can vouch that at least at times, they're wild/profitable.

The Excalibur eh? My wife and I stayed there once. Never again.

Yes there is a pool - outdoors
The food is terrible
No daycare

If you HAVE to stay at the Excalibur make sure that you ask for / demand a room in Tower 2. This is particularly important if you have kids. Tower 1 is a quarter mile walk from everything through the heart of the casino.

Check the Luxor for competing rates since they are both Mandalay Bay properties. Plus the Hilton/ Caesars properties are running a low rate guarantee program. You may be able to do better at Paris or Caesars.

The Excalibur rooms were OK, our biggest problem was the walls were somewhat thin and we heard the neighbor’s kids all night long.

If you and your wife are going alone (no kids) then check out the Mandalay Bay Sunday Brunch buffet. Also breakfast at Paris and happy hour at Napoleon's lounge (also in Paris)

Send your wife to the Spa at the Luxor or the Bellagio for a day – You’ll get mileage out of that for years!

Poker games on that end of the strip are low limit and ridiculously loose. Try the 4/8 half kill at Mandalay Bay as well as the game that are spread at the Excalibur and Luxor.

Default kids, kids and still more kids

I stayed there a couple years ago and the only thing I can remember is that the place was swarming with little kids.

This is OK is you're bringing your kids with, but if it's just you and the wife, you'll get tired of them being underfoot or batting you with the treasures they won from the arcade every time you get in the elevator.

Cheers,
NBB

True, the Excaliber has awesome live games. 2-6 spread hold-em that is very easy to crack for a decent player, not to mention, any quads or better hand (Dont even have to play both hole cards) gets to spin the wheel for 20-300$, any pocket aces cracked gets to spin the wheel also, good bad beat jackpot as well.

But... Don't stay there. The pool absolutely sucks, no good amenities for your wife.

Stay at the Luxor and ask for the spa pass book when you check in, you and her get two free spa passes and you can pawn yours off on her. The Luxor Spa is nice, so is the pool, even spring for a massage for her to buy yourself a few hours. The pool is decent also. The rooms are a lot nicer and there is the tram to Mandalay/Excal. Plus, across the street at the MGM is the monorail.

Plus, the Luxor has some easy NL hold-em tourneys, you have to register early though.
