Default overplayed monster?

paradise 5/10 5 max

decent game, loose and fairly passive

I'm in the BB with JJ

UTG raises which could be any playable hand. Button calls which could be anything that looks pretty. I 3-bet and both call.

Flop J32r

This is not the sort of game where anyone will make moves without some sort of hand. But they do call too much.

I bet. Only UTG calls.

Turn is a blank. Should I bet again? UTG will probably fold if he has nothing but checking is fairly unlikey to induce a bluff. ibet and UTG folded

Is it better to slowplay flop or turn here?

Thanks

You have to bet here. You hope he has a strong hand and raises. Most likely he will fold if he has nothing and call if he has something.

I like the flop bet, this is your best chance to profit from your set when dealing with loose-passive players.

But I disagree that you have to bet the turn. If UTG is a player who always calls you down with a ragged ace here, fine, bet-call-bet-call. But otherwise why not try to ensure you get at least one big bet? Check and hope he has enough of a hand to bet. If not, bet the river. UTG isn't drawing to a flush or straight - he is more likely to call on the river than the turn since it only costs one bet to see a showdown not two. Your check will give him hope that his A or K high is good, and of course, you give him a chance to pair his hand.

I think this is one of the rare situations giving a free card is correct.

I agree with the above. There is not a river card that will come (I'm assuming since I don't know the turn) that can hurt you. You have top set, so you want him to see one more card and hopefully make something so he can call a bet. If the river is another blank, you haven't lost anything by not betting the turn.
