Standard or waste of chips? pp 10/20
Party Poker 10/20 Hold'em (6 max, 3 handed) converter
Check-call the river? Unknown opponent, again I'm used to these people being overaggro and show two pair here but then again the dude caps the turn. Preflop: Hero is SB with 9[img]/images/graemlins/diamond.gif[/img], 9[img]/images/graemlins/heart.gif[/img]. Button folds, Hero raises, BB calls. Flop: (4 SB) J[img]/images/graemlins/spade.gif[/img], A[img]/images/graemlins/diamond.gif[/img], 8[img]/images/graemlins/club.gif[/img] (2 players) Hero bets, BB calls. Turn: (3 BB) 9[img]/images/graemlins/club.gif[/img] (2 players) Hero bets, BB raises, Hero 3-bets, BB caps, Hero calls. River: (11 BB) 4[img]/images/graemlins/heart.gif[/img] (2 players) Hero bets, BB raises, Hero calls. Final Pot: 15 BB Main Pot: 15 BB, between BB and Hero. > Pot won by BB (15 BB). Results in white below: BB shows Tc Qh (straight, queen high). Hero shows 9d 9h (three of a kind, nines). Outcome: BB wins 15 BB. |

Re: Standard or waste of chips? pp 10/20
when an opponent caps the turn it is usually because he likes his hand. he usually likes it enough to bet on the river if you check to him. i don't think the captheturnforafreeshowdown move is common enough to worry about. so if all you want to accomplish is getting the river bet, a check should do it. if you think your hand is good and want more money to go in to the pot, a check (and then raise) will accomplish that also. so i think a river check is often a good idea here.

I'm not sure, I don't think betting and calling a raise is better or worse than check-calling.
I would like to know what others think about this. Guido |

Re: Standard or waste of chips? pp 10/20
Maybe it's a cop-out, but I agree the decision is basically a wash.
I believe he has the best hand until he gets raised, at which point I'm about 50/50. On the other hand, BB will always bet if checked to, but I'm very sure Hero is beat if he CRs and BB 3-bets (so that plan is out.) So in my mind, the decision of bet or check depends on which side of the 50/50 you're on, and is fairly inconsequential. |

Re: Standard or waste of chips? pp 10/20
I like the way he played it. I bet becasue I still think I have the best hand with my set. I figure his most likely hands are AJ, A8, A9, 88 or QT ... you beat most of those so I bet. When I get raised, I'm not so sure anymore so I call.

Seems about right to me.

Re: Standard or waste of chips? pp 10/20
I like it. This looks like an obvious steal situation to BB, which would probably lead him/her to be overaggressive with a worse hand.
