B&M rebuy, strategy for very short buyin stack?
I live around an Indian casino (cache creek if anyone plays there) that holds 1 $20 rebuy tourny a week. Good number of entrants and lots of LAGs, but the starting chips is only 400, with blinds starting at 25/50! What's the correct strategy for this structure tourny? The one time I played I ended up having to push/call with hands like 99, and I thought I might even have to play looser to do better. Any thoughts? thanks

Re: B&M rebuy, strategy for very short buyin stack?
If there is just one, optional rebuy permitted, I would look at this tourney as rebuy-mandatory, and do it right away. At least then you would have 800 in chips, I am assuming? While 800 in chips isn't enough to play with, at 25/50 starting blinds, if you are going to play at all, you may as well give yourself the additional ammunition.
Yes, you are going to have to make many more bold plays with hands that normally wouldn't warrant it. And you are going to have to get lucky. With the turbo structure of this tourney (I am assuming), waiting around for a premium hand will only be suicide. I tried to answer your question the best way I could, but you really didn't give enough information. Next time, please try to include information like how long each level lasts, if the blinds double at each level, if it is a LHE or NLHE tourney (I assumed it was NLHE), if the rebuy gave you 400 additional chips (or more), if there were any rules regarding when you could make the rebuy (I assumed there weren't). Re: B&M rebuy, strategy for very short buyin stack?
This is very similar to the style of tournament at my home casino (Turning Stone, in New York). Their tournaments begin at 25-25 with 300 in chips, and unlimited rebuys for the first hour. I'd be interested in any ideas on this topic as well.
My suspicion is, that with unlimited rebuys, you basically have to assume that you will rebuy a few times. At the Stone, the tournaments are $25 entry with $5 rebuys, so 10 rebuys in hardly unreasonable, and a lot of people will play anything the first hour and then always make the small rebuy. I prefer to be a little more selective, but I still play a lot more loosely. |

If so, how much is it and how many chips do you get? 3) At the end of the rebuy period, how many chips will you have if you haven't played a hand, and did purchase the add-on (assuming there is one)? 4) What will the blinds be starting the second hour?
