Re: Vegas on the Cheap?
If you are going to play poker or gamble downtown and want a cheap hotel, I would check out the Plaza, 4 Queens, Horsehoe, Las Vegas Club, Main Street, Freemont, etc. The Nugget is the nicest and the most expensive downtown. I actually like staying there, but there are tons of cheap hotels downtown and everything is walking distance.

Re: Vegas on the Cheap?
You may want to check out www.cheapovegas.com It's a funny site with good info on the various levels of cost and tastelessness of vegas hotel/casinos. Also, definitely consider arriving Sunday and leaving Friday morning, as it will be a lot cheaper than the weekend.
I haven't been to Vegas since I was 12, but I just planned a trip for early November and here's some of what I found: You can stay really cheap at the Orleans during slow months like December (I'm talking $15-$25 a night cheap). From what I've heard the Orleans is a fantastic hotel with a good poker room just off the strip. Downtown you can get a motel-quality room for about $25 a night at places like the Las Vegas Club or the 4 Queens Sun-Thu nights when there's not a convention in town. The Nugget and the Horseshoe are very nearby and they each have poker rooms. You can compare prices on the hotel websites. I opted to go for the Sahara because I found a good deal ($30 a night) on www.travelworm.com for the week I'm heading there. There are also good deals available on sites like Priceline and Expedia. If you dig enough you can find a great deal. |

Re: Vegas on the Cheap?
Binion's is currently offering $25 a night midweek rates. Check out the website www.binions.com. Just a warning though, unless you specifically say the code "shoenet" while making the reservation you will be offered the normal rate. Best deal in vegas right now IMO.
I've stayed there twice now. Rooms are clean and basic. Plenty good enough for sleeping in and smell fine. The poker room is great for low limits, 2/4 and 4/8 limit and quite often have a 1/2 no limit game going. It's not a long drive to the strip, but if you want to drink while down there a cab ride is ~$15, and the cheap bus ride can be fairly long. |
