Default re-raising flop to see where I\'m at.........

Here is a typical situation that comes up a lot..I have K-Q.
Flop comes A-Q-rag rainbow....WHat is the correct play? If I'm leading, should I bet? (If so, how much of pot?) What if I'm called? DO I still bet after turn if another rag comes down? (again how much should i bet?)

Or should I check flop and re-raise to see where I'm at (how much should I re-raise?) This is what I'm doing more of now..It makes it easier for me to know when I'm beat w/o losing all of my chips..

any suggestions on this beoch of a situation?

what is the preflop action?
how many players are you up against?
Do you have the lead? (did you put in the last raise preflop?)
do you have position?
what are the chip stacks?
where in the tourney are you? (early, mid, late, final table)
what are the blind levels, when is the next increase?

these are some of the pieces of information that one must process to determine what the best course of action is. without this info, an answer will be useless.

What are the blinds? What position are you playing from? How many people are in the hand?

This situation only poses a problem for me when heads up or against 2 others in the hand...If there is a family flop, I'm out easy in this situation...

If I have position, and I'm bet into, should I re-raise?

Or If I am leading, should I check and re-raise or just bet?

I'm also assuming avg stacks and early to mid tourney level

thanks all...just looking for a some general opinions

If you were the last person to raise before the flop than I would raise here, otherwise I might check. Again, more information would be needed but that is my general opinion.
