Sorry, I went to bed before this blew up.
Cleveland Guy and 232fantastic were right on. I had 99, opponent turned over 55. No flush draw. Blank blank. I didn't think he would check a queen with $800 left, and I was committed after my flop bet. When he pushed, I put him on the draw but I wasn't happy. I still don't know how you can put me on nines. Thanks for responding. |

What's the prize?
BTW - the fact that he guessed it "perfect" was just luck. Anywhere from 88-JJ the play is about the same. |

The reason I can put you on a mid pocket pair is because that is what I would do if i had 99 or 10 10, I would probably bet slightly less than half my stack in case he hit. Also I'm lucky at guessing.

I can easily see how he could put you on 88-JJ (which is what I was thinking when I read your post) but I can't see how he could put you on 99 specifically.

How did I put you on 99, or somewhere in the range of 99? (my actual guess was 88-tt).
UTG opens for a call. You raise 4x. Why 4x - and 1/4 of your stack. Cause you have a GOOD, but not GREAT hand. You want to push out UTG if he is loose, and also be able to push out the blinds. You also want to make it a big enough raise that your going to only be called by someone with a real hand. Then Post flop - you put down a bet to try and take down the pot right there - but not go all in. With your bet, I think your really only scared of an A, or a K, althought the Q is a little scary. If you had AA, KK, AQ, or KQ, you'd probably check/raise here. On a heart draw - you'd like to see the turn for free - the pot is big enough, but you still have enough left to get away from the hand. If you had true rags or a really low PP and were trying to steal the pot you would have gone all in hoping he couldn't call. How'd I do? |
