Internet Relief?
There is a column in the Wall Street Journal today, previewing the talks between the U.S. and Antigua regarding the access and regulation of online casinos (and I would presume by extension poker rooms). For those of you not following the legal mess, Antigua challenged the U.S. at the World Trade Organization, as the U.S. allows U.S. companies to offer gambling services, but not foreign corporations. This is a small loophole, but the U.S. is sitting down for talks this month, and have said that they would like to have a settlement before the end of the month.
I won’t say this will legalize the whole things or even bring back the advertising, but it is a step in the right direction. Even better, vote out Bush and the rest of the Moral Majority!!

I am pretty sure online casinos will be forced out of business in a couple of years. Too bad it is breeding gound for a lot of players we need.
As for the Bush comment - it isn't safe to vote for a D'rat.

I put the Bush quote at the end of the post because I feel that a Non-right-wing-nutjob Attorney General has better things to do than shut down advertising for Party or Paradise or any of the other online cards rooms during the WPT broadcasts, etc.
lets face it, the WPT has been fabulous for the average and above player. But the advertising has to continue or the aquarium eventually runs dry. Getting a WTO settlement would be a step in the right direction, but I don't have high hopes. Don't YOU think the USAG office has better things to do??

The sites are hosted in a foreign soverign nation where hosting internet gambling sites is legal. It would be very difficult for the US government to shut them down short of economic/political sanctions or an act of war. [ QUOTE ] The have already made it tough to get money to them. Given the blowback over the Patriot Act, it would be pretty damn difficult to restrict it any more without a large civil rights uproar. THE US GOVERNMENT.
I would bet money these online casinos will be out of business in the USA within 2 years. It is really simple. Make the ISP pay for it. The general public doesn't care much about internet gambling and most Americans support the Patriot act - it helps keep us safe and has nothing to do with this issue.
