Re: Results
I was hoping he had AJo, because of the title.

Re: 5/10NL Hand v. AJo
Many players will call 4% of the raiser's stack having the raiser covered and position on the raiser with a wide range of hands. I couldn't rule out an A, a J, or nothing based on the preflop call.

Re: Results
by the way, i haven't read through the responses, but i have admitted to el diablo that i played this hand badly. i had a brain fart on the river and should have pushed. also, i don't advocate the preflop call, i just wanted to play a hand against el diablo.
anyway, my bad. i didn't read the responses, but if anyone defended my play, they're probably wrong. |

My simple take on it was w/ these stacks, if he's going to call 40 pre-flop w/ QJo and position and flop AJJ when I have AK, he needs to get my whole stack. If he's not gonna bust me in this hand, he has to fold pre-flop. After I call the flop, I think he should underbet on the turn, making it easy for him to push on the river. The way it went down, I think he still needs to push on the river. |

Re: 5/10NL Hand v. AJo
Nero,
I pretty much agree w/ your whole post. I do think a river check is better than a weak lead v. this player, but I don't think that is an unreasonable thing to do sometimes. The way this hand went down, I'd call the $250 w/ KK or QQ on the river. I also think the $250 bet is pretty bad no matter what hand he has. |

[/ QUOTE ] especially against someone like you (who is going to glean more information from a turn check than a bet) I think a turn bet is mandatory. if he bets there it's much harder for you to fold on the river, and I think folding the turn is giving up too much. it's funny how often the best course of action against a good player is to just bet your damn hand. --turnipmonster |

Re: 5/10NL Hand v. AJo
I see your point and agree you line is better. Gives you extra money when he has nothing or Ax and saves your money if he has the J and you avoid getting pot committed. Nice move.
