Not to mention, even if he did understand EV (which, being a geek he probebally does) the variance is probebally far higher than he cares to deal with. Remember, this isn't a card game where the "long run" is a lifetime of cardplaying.
Not to mention that in his eyes, mabye the extra x-thousand dollars is not worth the risk.
I understand the point, I know that the math says it is in his best interesting, but we forget that a normal (conservative) person is probebally not willing to risk a huge amount of money if he doesn't have to.
We also forget that he may be basing his wagers on what he feels he knows about a given category.
