If they:

1 - are going to play reasonable hands, and
2 - they play relatively well postflop,

then you probably don't want to raise AJo (and the like).

In most games (especially low-limit games), neither of these will be true.

All good advice. But I understand the reason for question. After taking some beats on big pots I used to second guess myself about why I raise with the premium hands. Just take all this advice in stride and raise your premium hands. In the long run these extra bets are one of the things that will add to being a winner.

Thanks. I'm probably only focusing on when I lose with AJ and not the time that I win, hence my reluctance. Plus the confusion that the value of raising came from eliminating players. But now I get it. Thanks for your help.

Would an unsophisticated way of saying it be to say simply that KQ > K8 (a reasonable hand that a loose player would limp with)?

AJ > J9

AQ > A7

KJ > K6

etc, etc. In the long run you win with these hands over hands that loose players limp with.

whoa buddy, take a chill pill! Also I would refrain from asking such questions directly to Ed, they are beyond basic.

My god if that is what Ed is going to get swamped with, he is going to soon become: The author formerly known as Ed Miller.

I'm on a 2-17 streak with AKo. I keep raising it 100% pre-flop and 80% of flops, but I mutter "[censored] 2+2" under my breath every time.

I think the problem is that I've read too much. I've probably read about a dozen books

And you don't understand why you should raise with AA and KK?

Go back and study the pot equity section at the beginning of the book. If you're putting in 10% of the money but getting a return of 30% you want to put in as much as possible (and make the others put in an equal amount) every time you get the 30% offer.

I know my post wasn't clear. I always raise with AA and KK. I have no problem there. My question was regarding less powerful high card hands like AQ and KQ.
