Default overbetting the pot

why is it generally ill-advised to overbet the pot in an NL game? For example, if you have a good hand in NL preflop and you don't want people drawing on you for good implied odds, why is it bad to bet the size of the pot or greater?

There are some cases where overbetting the pot is OK. It depends on the cards and by how much you overbet. To get any more specific answers, you'd need to suggest a scenario.

as kurn says there are times to do it. anyone who says its illadvised to overbet the pot is giving out bad advice unless he is referring to specific cases. the size of your bets in no limit must refelct the size of the pot as well as the size of your stack. to not do so is suicide.
