calling all your chips on a draw
2nd hand on party $22 5 6 [img]/images/graemlins/heart.gif[/img] on the button, utg raises to 80, 5 callers including me.
Flop A [img]/images/graemlins/heart.gif[/img] 4 [img]/images/graemlins/heart.gif[/img] 3 [img]/images/graemlins/spade.gif[/img] Utg goes allin all fold to me and I call, and miss completly. Was this call correct? My reasoning was that i would more than double up and give myself alot more play and if I missed oh well move on to the next tournie. |

Re: calling all your chips on a draw
I think the preflop call is close...you'll get many arguments on here for folding. I would have called with the 4 other callers.
This is a very good flop for you. You are a favorite to make a five card hand. You are a favorite over AK. You are about a 60-40 dog to AA, but I can't see him playing AA this way. I think you should call here since you have lots of overlay. Re: calling all your chips on a draw
i would fold preflop. the blinds might reraise and force you out. you're putting in 8% of your stack on a hand you have a low chance of winning. if you do flop an OESD or a flush draw (but not both) there will likely be so much action on the flop that you have to fold or that it's only marginally profitable. there are enough players in that you have to fear a higher flush draw, which is your horror situation.
on the flop, i'd definitely call. you didn't say whether the blinds were in the hand, but if they are, it makes your call all the better (because they might come along, and your hand loves 3-way action.... but then, who doesn't love 3-way action?) even if he does have the dreaded AA, you're getting just about even-money pot odds in terms of chipEV (you're calling 920 with 40% to win, so you need to win 920*5/2 = 2300 to make it even, and your pot will be 1000+1000+80+80+80+10+15 = 2265). soss, thanks for including the twodimes numbers. |

Re: calling all your chips on a draw
i think the preflop call is fine...you could flop a monster stack-buster. however, you only flopped a monster draw.
this early in the tourney, i would certainly fold, even though i know statistically, i am likely the favorite. i may PUSH all-in, but i wouldn't CALL all-in(that way i have folding equity). IMO, the first few blind levels are about survival. it is later on that gambling becomes a necessity. cheers! |
