i've heard from some people its not profitable to play at these limits and others say it is profitable. i'm not complaining about the players in these games or bad outcomes on hands, i just want to know any estimates people may have and if they feel these limits can be profitable. We'll define profitable as +$10/hr.

The actual definition of profitable is > $0/hr. Do you see why?

Nope, I wouldn't be happy making $1 per hour playing 4 simultaneous tables of $2/4 on Party. Profitable is profitable, but whether it's worthy of your time is quite another.

Kind of...not really...

He was just correcting your use of the word "profitable." It's very possible to make more than $10 an hour playing 4/8 an under, and many here do it.

How many people in the world who have ever played 4-8 and lower are beating it? Less than 1%.

How many of those playing the game right now are beating it? 10%.

How many people who regularly play 4-8 and below are beating it? 30%. At some point, the losers quit, but the winners move up to higher limits.

How many of the regular posters here (200 posts and up) could beat 4-8? 95%. Beating the calling stations and maniacs at the low-limit tables is the easiest kind of poker to beat. If you can't beat those games but think you should, then most likely your post-flop play needs a lot of work.

How many people who read these forums can beat 4-8? Maybe 10%. I think there's a ton of lurkers here learning to play the game. I'm just barely beating micro-limits myself, but I am beating it (after 100,000 hands, I'm up).
