It's a P2P file sharing app, the main difference is that when users are downloading a file, they are also uploading it to others. There is no traditional client software, everything is web-based, so searching google for "bittorrent links" will start you on your path to finding content.

wow, I'm running that oldversion.com right now and it's already found 37 spyware and it's only like 1/5 of the way through my computer. seems like a great site.

I'm not a big fan of Kazaa or Kazaa lite anymore. I got two trojans through using them. One of them was called something like Optixpro.11a and I can't remember the other one. If you can find an alternative I'd avoid Kazaa.

I was running the thing that finds the spyware on your computer and it found a lot of them for me. I used to have spybot, but I must have deleted it, so I hadn't ran one in a while.

Id say any file sharing should be used in conjunction with antivirus and a firewall. Then if you get a trojan it aint so bad

If you want movies or tv programs (WPT for example), Bit Torrent is a good one to look at. I use it to get WWE programming before it is aired in the UK. Loads of torrents are hosted at www.suprnova.org and there are loads more specialised sites out there (if you have the patience to look for them).

For music, my brother uses DC++. Emule is another good one.

Avoid Kazaa (and skins) like the plague. It really is overrated.

My problem with bit torrent is that I get horrible transfer rates. I never get tranfer rates over 10 kb/s, even though I have DSL and look for the files with the most seeds. I only download late at night PST, so maybe that is the reason? I can't imagine that would be the cause though. Any suggestions? I have been trying to download the Kill Bills and the Chappelle Show seasons.

I average around 10 kb/s on most torrents, but have seen it as high as 40-50 kb/s. Are you running much in the background that could be using up bandwidth?
