Yes, that's it. Parade him around town in pigskin diapers whilst eating BLTs. Hold the mayo.

Default Re: France and Germany anti-Saddam death penalty

[ QUOTE ]
It would be better for the US from a political standpoint if Saddam got a relatively light sentence that was acceptable to the Iraqi masses.

[/ QUOTE ] Since when is a light sentence acceptable to the Iraqi masses? You think that's what a majority of Iraqis would support after millions of their brethren were slaughtered under his regime?

The good news is that Saddam is facing the death penalty

... the bad news is that David Beckham is going to take it

Default The trouble with imposing democracy on Iraq

is that it is imposed by outsiders, by outsiders who have been a bitter enemy of Arabs, by invaders, by poeple who have brought chaos to Iraq, by people who do not practice what they preach - and so on, and so forth.

We expect Iraqis to behave like western democrats - form political parties that cut across ethnic lines and tribal affiliations and contest leadership on the basis of ideology alone. This is pretty much nonsense worthy of the best and brightest minds coming out of Ivy League.

The death penalty is now been officially out for all civilised nations (broad hint). That the Americans expect Iraqis to behave democratically (or just behave, period!) and at the same time don't mind Iraqis executing people, is indicative of the perverse way of Washington thinking.

We shall see a lot more silly, frightening stuff coming out of Iraq.

Either you are for the death penalty or are opposed to it in all cases regardless of how heinous the crime.

I prefer to see Saddam locked up with a perpetually horny, 500 pound gorilla.

I'm sure you mean something sensible and not what I'm about to exaggerate, but one can easily be in favor of the death penalty for murder but not for mail fraud.
