Default ak vs two other pairs

if you have two people allin, who you know have say 66 88 and you have ak, should you call the bet if it puts you allin. does it make a big difference if the cards are suited.

could someone also explain why?

If I understand the situation, you're getting pot odds of 2:1. From the data below, odds against ending up w/ best hand are

Case 1: AKo 1.68:1
Case 2: AKs 1.53:1

So it looks like you have to call.

Being suited doesn't matter much. Why? Most times you improve to win, it's by making a pair. Hope this helps.

calling is a good play for you. You have about a 41% chance to win, 88 has about a 42% chance to win, and 66 has about a 17% chance to win. Since the pot is going to be atleast 3 times what you are risking the EV is atleast ((.41 * 3)-1) times your stack; EV > .23 times your stack which ofcourse makes it a good call. If you already have other money in the pot or other people do then your EV gets even higher.

The program I used is the same as the web-based one at

http://www.twodimes.net/poker/

Although it doesn't seem to be working right now.

There are other similar programs: Pokerstove and Poker Calculator are two free ones that come to mind. You can do a search in these forums or Google to learn more.

Edit: P.S. The size of the pairs doesn't make much difference unless one of them is KK or AA because it is then much less likely you will improve by making a pair:
