if you have two people allin, who you know have say 66 88 and you have ak, should you call the bet if it puts you allin. does it make a big difference if the cards are suited.

[/ QUOTE ] If I understand the situation, you're getting pot odds of 2:1. From the data below, odds against ending up w/ best hand are Case 1: AKo 1.68:1 Case 2: AKs 1.53:1 So it looks like you have to call. Being suited doesn't matter much. Why? Most times you improve to win, it's by making a pair. Hope this helps. Code:

Case 1: Holdem Hi: 1370754 enumerated boards cards win %win lose %lose tie %tie EV As Kc 511103 37.29 856548 62.49 3103 0.23 0.374 6c 6h 251184 18.32 1116467 81.45 3103 0.23 0.184 8s 8d 605364 44.16 762287 55.61 3103 0.23 0.442 Case 2: Holdem Hi: 1370754 enumerated boards cards win %win lose %lose tie %tie EV As Ks 541460 39.50 826306 60.28 2988 0.22 0.396 6c 6h 253971 18.53 1113795 81.25 2988 0.22 0.186 8s 8d 572335 41.75 795431 58.03 2988 0.22 0.418

|

calling is a good play for you. You have about a 41% chance to win, 88 has about a 42% chance to win, and 66 has about a 17% chance to win. Since the pot is going to be atleast 3 times what you are risking the EV is atleast ((.41 * 3)-1) times your stack; EV > .23 times your stack which ofcourse makes it a good call. If you already have other money in the pot or other people do then your EV gets even higher.

The program I used is the same as the web-based one at
http://www.twodimes.net/poker/ Although it doesn't seem to be working right now. [img]/images/graemlins/mad.gif[/img] There are other similar programs: Pokerstove and Poker Calculator are two free ones that come to mind. You can do a search in these forums or Google to learn more. Edit: P.S. The size of the pairs doesn't make much difference unless one of them is KK or AA because it is then much less likely you will improve by making a pair: Code:

Holdem Hi: 1370754 enumerated boards cards win %win lose %lose tie %tie EV As Kc 340900 24.87 1021274 74.50 8580 0.63 0.251 Kd Kh 776423 56.64 585751 42.73 8580 0.63 0.569 Qc Qh 244851 17.86 1120235 81.72 5668 0.41 0.180 Holdem Hi: 1370754 enumerated boards cards win %win lose %lose tie %tie EV As Kc 496874 36.25 869131 63.41 4749 0.35 0.364 Jd Jh 250279 18.26 1115726 81.40 4749 0.35 0.184 Qc Qh 618852 45.15 747153 54.51 4749 0.35 0.453

|
