Default 3-6-12 Louisiana big river bet games

Howdy ya'll...

Closest casino to me is in Lake Charles Louisiana, where the low limit holdem games are 3-6-12... $1 small, $3 big, $6 turn & river, with optional $12 bet/raises after the river.

Most games are loose/passive, lots of locals looking for a socially good time. It seems the vast majority of these people see EVERY flop, and then will often call to the river with any possible hand. With a full table someone always seems to catch a miracle card and cracks the top hand.

How should I adjust my play? I realize that drawing hands go up in value because of the higher implied odds of the big river bet, but how much looser should I play? Any advice much appreciated... thx

Sounds very dangerous. If there are one or two solid players along with yourself your goose is cooked. If you are the only decent player you may stand a chance there, but odds are the house is the only winner long term.

The fact that there are lots of loose-passive folks dominates the fact that there is a $12 river bets. In fact you are probably better of without the $12 river.

Big pairs (pocket or flopped) do quite nicely so long as they ARE the best hand on the flop. Winning 33% of the time against 5 opponents is ChaChing. Quality drawing hands, like 66 and A4s go way up in value due to the huge implied odds; so long as you can get in for a single PF bet. Stay away from bad "drawing" hands like 87o and 94s.

Know that with several players in its routine that 2 players are "favorites" and often 3, all earning money from the really bad hands. Best hand and best draw should cap it. Play a lot more suited hands and pairs; play a few less unsuited hands. Tend to cap the flop when you flop a big draw or a big hand. Many draws are worth capping the turn (if there are lots of opponents).

Oh I agree completely that I'd be better off without the big river bet. I don't like it at all.. it takes away one of my advantages (tight play) and rewards all those people who suck out long shot draws. But since its the only casino I can drive too, might as well make whatever adjustments I can to maximize EV.

thx for suggestions...

Hi, one view is to tighten up on starting hands and loosen up on calling at river. the reson is you will be starting with better hands than most and being paid off well. In games like these I live by the rule. Best hand at flop or best drawing, if not fold. Just to expenseive short term to chase with less the best draw or to tried and play second best starting hands. Top pr or top draw.

Brier says "When you find yourself in a structure like this, I think you need to make some significant adjustments to your play on the river. In this structure, players like to slow-play more often and wait until the river to reveal their strength, rather than on the turn. It also makes bluffing more attractive, because you can bet more on the end and put pressure on your opponent to fold. It has been my experience against typical players that the big river bet is used when they have good hands. Some of the better players will occasionally make use of the big river bet to bluff. It makes betting a hand on the end for value more problematic, because you cannot assume that your hand is still good if you were just called on the turn and a blank comes on the river. "

Big Bend, there are more than just the games in LC. About an hour away is Kinder, 2 hours away is Marksville, and Lafayette has a few bar games going right now.

PM me and I'll give you the rundown.

Try some 10-20 at the Isle, you'll get a better read on these guys, and they won't "suck-out" on you as often.

The big final river bet is by no means a disaster. If you feel it IS a disaser its because you aren't betting for value enough on the river: most of the time YOU will have the best hand. However, it does increase the implied odds for the drawing hands and it does discourage the one-more-loose call tendancy of the bad players.

Howdy ya'll and thanks for the replies and suggestions. I just returned from playing 3-6-12 at the Isle of Capri, and I had by far my best weekend ever. Lots of fun.

Also witnesses the "bad beat" jackpot at another table this evening. One guy had AA, the other guy had 1010. 5 cards came A 10 10 blank blank.. so aces full of 10's (the minimum) lost to 4 of a kind. $48,000 sure made them happy tho.
