Montreal
Am I right in assuming there is no poker in Montreal? I'm headed up there for business in a couple of weeks, and was planning on hitting the casinos, but I'd love to get some table time too
Thanks, matt |

Re: Montreal
No poker in Montreal.
The new Seneca casino in Niagara Falls is positioning itself as the poker centre of Canada. Between Rama's 14 tables, Great Blue Heron's 9, and Brantford's 12, that shouldn't be too difficult a task. |

Re: Montreal
I heard the new casino on the Canadian side is going to have a poker room as well. Last time I was up at Casino Niagara a couple of people were talking about it and the dealer mentioned that she heard it was true as well.
Do you know when Senaca Niagara is going to open a poker room? |

Re: Montreal
Nope, no legal poker in Montreal, unfortunately. There have long been rumors that the Casino de Montreal is going to add poker, but nothing's ever come of it.
The closest poker room is at the Akwesasne Indian casino in upstate NY, just across the border from Cornwall, Ontario. It's about a 60-90 min. drive from Montreal. I've never been myself, but other players tell me it's not very well run. The dealers are apparently poorly trained, and I've heard stories of some outrageously bad rulings by the cardroom staff. |

Re: Montreal
Akwasasne is not that bad a casino, considering its location. They have tournaments everyday they're open (Wed-Sun) and have 3-6, 5-10, and a no limit game (100 min, 500 max). Players and dealers are friendly. It is a non-smoking poker room.

Re: Montreal
Thanks for the addtl. info, arvin.
Like I said, I've never been to Akwesasne myself, just going by what other poker players in Montreal have told me. Hoping to get down there and check it out for myself sometime soon. BTW, arvin, do you know of any privately-run poker tournaments in Montreal? I've been asking around, but haven't found much yet. |

Re: Montreal
No, sorry iceblink, but I did hear recently that the Montreal casino was going to open a poker room within the next year or before the end of the year. Ain't that something?

[/ QUOTE ] Yes, arvin, that would be great if the Montreal casino would open a poker room. But I've been hearing rumors that they're about to open one ever since I came to Montreal two years ago, and it still hasn't happened yet! It's a real shame, since there are a lot of poker players here. BTW, I've found some info on Montreal-area tourneys on the princepoker.com forum. Looks like there's a big NLHE event coming up in Quebec City in late July. |

Re: Montreal
Went to the Casino this past week. Apparently the Casino is getting poker, but its taking a long time because the Casino is owned by the government and it takes a while to process. This was relayed to me by a dealer. Also, there supposedly is a poker club called 4th Street. I'm not sure about that, I think its a 100 min buy in. I'm moving to Montreal soon for college and I was hoping to find a good low limit game. Anyone know, PM me. Thanks.

Re: Montreal
Yeah, looks like the Quebec casinos FINALLY applied to add poker a couple of months ago. It's been reported in two local newspapers (Journal de Montreal & La Presse). Looks like the approval process could be quite long though (maybe 1-2 yrs.), if it's even approved at all.
Easternbytes, I'll send you a PM on where to find info on Montreal poker games. |
