if someone calls, I think you have to give it up if you're trying for a checkraise.

Sure, but what's wrong w/ giving up when you have jack-sh!t, right? Let's find out what's going on before tossing out that $100 is all I'm saying.

as for the hand, here are my thoughts:

preflop: depends how passive the game is, but this isnt the important part of the hand anyways

turn: i check, then fold or raise depending on a couple things. the dream position to raise is if the button's bet appears weak and everyone folds between the button and me. everything in between is a closer decision. i very rarely bet out absent some incredible passive table, and would certainly not make the play going in blind without reads

true. my only thought is a bet is somewhat less money (i.e. you will probably be checkraising for more than 100 if the button drops the hammer. if he underbets the pot again, cool)

I agree completely there's nothing wrong with folding AJo here

First off, it's difficult to give a good response to a post regarding a live NL game. There are many factors to consider and you've included nearly none of them in your post.

How do the other players view you?

Are the other players thinking about the game or just playing their cards?

Is the game passive, aggressive, loose, tight?

Is EP the type to toss his last 90 bucks in with any pair in a 300 pot?

Since you didn't post any of this, I am forced to assume that this is a typical college dorm game where people are not thinking and just playing.

In that type of game there is little point in tossing out a half pot size bluff here. Someone is likely to have a king and if not, an 8 or pair between 8-K will be likely to call you.

It isn't fair of you to make an ambigous post and then expect people to write a novel in response.

You have PokerTracker, right? Check out your stats on AJo...it's really not that hard.
