Namely that with a set of fours there is likely to be one more overcard out there that pairs someone and gives you action.

Next time, do us all a favor and say unbelievably simple answer, so we don't all fall all over ourselves trying to unravel the mystery.

My hand is up. Guilty.

Whether and when fours ever actually surpassed them was inconsequential to what I was driving at.

[/ QUOTE ]

You were trying to say that flopping a set of 4s will generally give you more action than 7s, and that this makes 4s at least as good as 7s. Then you backpeddle and say that even though 4s probably aren't actually as good as 7s, at least they bring more action. It's wonderful that you've discovered this little gem. However, you're original point is still wrong, 4s are not as profitable as 7s and never will be.

This thread is equivalent to saying T5o is at least as good as T6o, asking why, then pointing out that it's because it makes a larger variety of straights. After reasonable posters claim this isn't correct, you say, but you're missing might point! Of course, it isn't as good as T6o, but that's inconsequential.

What's disburbing about this thread isn't people overthinking the problem, but how much they continue to fawn over you despite your incredible ego and unwillingness to admit mistakes.

Its somewhat counterbalanced, however, there is a higher likelihood that an opponent is playing two cards that gives them a straight draw when the 7 flops, than two cards that gives them a straight draw with the 4 that flops.

Default not quite

IF everyone called the flop, then it might be more likly that someone called with a seven in his hand than a four. Therefore, there MAY still be two fours in the remaining deck and only one seven. Slight as that might be, if true just some of the time then it does change the odds.

Default HUH????

"The significance is that 77 makes two pair slightly more often than 44."

Please show me a flop where 7s make two pair but fours don't?

I agree w/ Choppy, jay, savage, astro et al on their points, both regarding 44 v. 77 and this thread.
