Cap this on the turn?
this is my first post w/ 2+2. thank you all for contributing to such a great site and in advance for your feedback on this hand.
bay 101 (San Jose), 20/40 table has been very active thanks to one maniac who raises every hand, generally to the river with just about anything and then folds to the re-raise on the river. i'm just waiting in line to cash a check at his expense. folded to maniac, just in front of the button, who raises button thinks and calls sb calls Hero calls in BB for 1 bet with 6[img]/images/graemlins/diamond.gif[/img] 3 [img]/images/graemlins/diamond.gif[/img] figuring if he hits his hand (yes that's a bit of a laugh) he can get very big action from the maniac, making the fd + maniac payoff = worth one bet. thoughts? flop comes 4 [img]/images/graemlins/club.gif[/img] 5 [img]/images/graemlins/club.gif[/img] 7[img]/images/graemlins/diamond.gif[/img] SB checks Hero checks maniac bets button raises SB folds Hero re-raises Maniac raises button caps Hero calls turn is 8 [img]/images/graemlins/diamond.gif[/img] Hero bets Maniac calls Button raises -here's where i made the decision to cap this, and i'm not sure this was a good idea. at this point i think the Button would slow down with a set or two pair or an overpair. question: what could he be raising with given that he knows the maniac is going to call with even a pair or two overcards? we cap the turn river is Q [img]/images/graemlins/heart.gif[/img] i check, manaic checks, button bets, i call, maniac calls results posted thanks... |

Re: Cap this on the turn?
You are only behind to 9-6 with the idiot in between who's still calling. Yes cap the turn. Lead the river too, if raised again then just call. Unless the button way overplayed his hand, I think the 8 on the turn may have saved you half the pot.

Re: Cap this on the turn?
I would not call this preflop. Yeah, the maniac is raising with any two cards, but it doesn't mean that you should be calling with any two cards. I know you're hoping for a flush draw, but the problem is that the maniac will make your draw very very expensive. Wait for a better chance where you can isolate the maniac with as little as A high as opposed to trying to draw out on him.
Anyway, I haven't looked at the results yet, but it's a mandatory 3-bet on the turn because the button could be raising with less than a straight. He wants to push you out and go heads up against the maniac. Make them both pay. At worst, you chop because I don't see the button having 96. |

Re: Cap this on the turn?
Cap the turn and lead the river. You could very well be looking at a split with the button and you want the maniac in between to put in as many chips as possible.
Preflop: easy call. |

Re: Cap this on the turn?
Thanks for your feedback. I was really on the fence as to whether this was worth a call preflop. I'm still not certain, given the maniac $$.
In retrospect, I would have capped the turn. |
