An acquaintance wants to take a shot with $10K. I told him that UB sometimes has a high stakes game, and even less often one with bad players.

I know it's hard, but please try to keep the answers serious.

Prima has a 15/30 NL/PL game that runs from time to time. Also, 5/10 NL is pretty steady and beatable. 10K is not enoough to play in the 15/30 game unless he's hoping to get lucky.

UB runs:

5/10 with $1000.00 buyin.

10/25 with $2500.00 buyin.

25/50 with $5000.00 buyin.

The 5/10 could be pretty terrible back when I played UB. I never thought it was worth playing over multitabling the 400. Your friend should bear UB's charming "bet pot" button in mind if he decides to play in this game. For the most part it protects the weaker players and makes the games tougher. The plus side is that players tend to leak by betting pot on later streets when it's not the best choice. It forces you to make some tough decisions, though.

The 10/25 and 25/50 games are weird. When I watched them, the money seemed to go in LIGHT before the flop and on the flop. It was never clear how much of this stuff was genius and how much of it was players goofing around or tilting.

I assume that means he is a smart player, but the way he is approaching this doesn't seem that smart to me. Why not put in a few thousand hands at smaller limits and gain the experience needed to play online NL? Seems better than 'taking a shot with $10K' at the highest game he can find.

prima has some good high stakes NL games. The players tend to make large and heavy bluffs with nothing.
