Someone correct me if I'm wrong, but my understanding is that they comp you on your average bet and the amount of time you play. You get a ranking based on how much the casino believes that you will lose on average per hour. They then comp you on this, so if you lose $1,000 in a minute, it means nothing... it's much better to loss over an extended period of time so they get a good feel for your play. They comp you better this way. Also to build your comps, take some breaks while at the table, miss the beginning of the shoe and wait to play the next one. This will pad your time while keeping up your average bet.
