I really don't know how I feel about this hand... I think I played it a little too safe on the flop and river, but him calling my pot-sized bet on the turn had me wondering just a little... no reads by me on this opponent

I like raising the flop here, but play it like you would KQ. Bet more on the turn, and your river check is horrible, horrible, horrible.

The river check is bad. If you're up against trips they aren't going to take the risk of having the river checked through. You're most likely up against a medium K here. Bet around half the pot on the river. The rest of the hand is good.

id raise to 3 or not at all on the flop, then i like the turn, and id bet about 8 or so on the river probably.
1. trips wouldnt check to you on the river, especially after check calling the turn
2. theres simply too good a chance hes on a semi-weak king not to value bet the river.

. If he atually had a six in his hand, i highly doubt he would lead bet. He most likely has a king. Heads up, its very unlikely he has the one other six, although no impossible. I think you played it well after flop and turn. River you must bet here. Hes almost telling you he has a King.
