Default Help with Kings

Big pairs when they don't improve are killing me. Please tell me what I did wrong on this one.

Party 2/4, 4th hand, full table. Party Poker 2/4 Hold'em (8 handed) converter

Preflop: Hero is SB with K[img]/images/graemlins/diamond.gif[/img], K[img]/images/graemlins/spade.gif[/img].
UTG raises, UTG+1 folds, MP1 folds, MP2 folds, CO folds, Button folds, Hero 3-bets, BB calls, UTG calls.

Flop: (9 SB) 2[img]/images/graemlins/spade.gif[/img], 5[img]/images/graemlins/spade.gif[/img], Q[img]/images/graemlins/club.gif[/img] (3 players)
Hero bets, BB calls, UTG calls.

Turn: (6 BB) 7[img]/images/graemlins/diamond.gif[/img] (3 players)
Hero bets, BB calls, UTG calls.

River: (9 BB) J[img]/images/graemlins/diamond.gif[/img] (3 players)
Hero checks, BB bets, UTG folds, Hero calls.

Final Pot: 11 BB
Main Pot: 11 BB, between Hero and BB. > Pot won by BB (11 BB).

Results in white below:
BB shows 7c Js (two pair, jacks and sevens).
Hero shows Kd Ks (one pair, kings).
Outcome: BB wins 11 BB.

Thanks for all input

With an EP raiser, you could have tried a checkraise on the flop, that probably would have knocked the BB out on the flop. However, as much as is sucks to lose to that hand, you want him to call on the flop because he is making a huge mistake.

I think you should bet the river - anyone raising that ragged board can beat one pair.

Bet the river.

So you lost this hand to some fish who called 2 cold with J7o and was drawing to runner-runner.

Him and his type make you tons of money in the long run.

Not betting this river is very weak. The rest is routine.

This is just a bad-beat.

Bet the river every time.

If you've been around here long enough to make 175 posts, you should know that the only thing you did wrong was not bet the river. You can't do anything about a player that will call 2 cold pre-flop with unsuited trash and continue to call bets with nothing on the flop. Just be thankful that there are such people who are doing everything they can to give you money.

Not to mention that there wasn't any possible straight or flush. Seriously, why didn't you bet the river? What were you afraid of?

Thanks for all the replies. I felt afterwards that I should have bet the river. I've had K's cracked a few times lately and guess I got a little gunshy. Thanks for the verbal smacks upside the head, I needed it.

Ok, I'm apparently clueless because I have misapplied "No better hand will fold, no worse hand will call" at least a few times lately. so under what circumstances does the "No better hand will fold, no worse hand will call" mantra come into effect, and under what circumstances is it inappropriate?

I thought check/call on the river was a good thing as it induces bluffs from hands you beat that wouldn't call?

There are a ton of worse hands that call here though, for example, any Queen.

It might be a good spot to check-raise the river if he's up against aggressive opponents.
