Re: best hand in Omaha 8 hi/low
[ QUOTE ]
Omaha-8, on the other hand thrives here, at least in low limit games. [/ QUOTE ] What are the "low limits" that are frequently spread in LA if you don't mind me asking? |

Re: best hand in Omaha 8 hi/low
Lots of 3-6 everywhere, (6-12 at Bike and Commerce, but hard to find 6-12 at Hollywood Park). I'm not sure about below 3-6, but I never really looked.

Re: best hand in Omaha 8 hi/low
I've definitely read that AA23ds is the best hand in Omaha Hi/Lo. Is this for multiway or for heads up or for both? It looks to be a really good multiway hand, but is it the best heads up hand? Also does it matter whether it's limit or PL? Just curious.

Re: best hand in Omaha 8 hi/low
[ QUOTE ]
What are the "low limits" that are frequently spread in LA if you don't mind me asking? [/ QUOTE ] Miles - Mostly $3-$6 and $6-$12, with some $2-$4 and $4-$8. The $2-$4, $3-$6 and $4-$8 games are all with a full kill and the $6-$12 games are mostly with a half kill (which makes them $9-$18 games about a third of the time - something like that). Things change, and I'm not sure I'm up to date. Been a year, maybe, since I last played at Normandie Casino or The Hustler Casino. As I recall they both had $3-$6 games going. I think Normandie had a $2-$4 game going, as well. Normandie and Hustler are the two Los Angeles casinos within walking distance of each other. However, you might not want to make that walk outside the hours of 9:00 a.m. and 3:30 p.m., and then not unless you are packing - and then not alone. It's probably perfectly safe - you just might not feel like doing it. (I don't). On a given evening Hollywood Park almost always has multiple $3-$6 and $4-$8 games going. Everytime I've been there recently the games have gone all night, breaking down into one game about 9 a.m. and then gradually opening up into multiple tables, as many as six, starting in the afternoon. Hollywood Park Casino is the west side casino and closest to my home. It's the first poker casino I ever visited. The poker is played in a huge room that I thought must be heaven the first time I saw it, with a jillion Texas hold 'em games going and also some seven-stud-high and Mexican poker. That's all in the low limit section, which is what you're asking about. All the casinos also have higher limit sections, but the Omaha-8 played in these sections is generally part of a mixed game table. There isn't, to the best of my knowledge, any mid-limit Omaha-8 anywhere in Los Angeles. If you're going to play Omaha-8 in a Los Angeles County casino, you're going to play whatever game they have going, and that's primarily $3-$6 and secondarily $6-$12. The Bicycle Club has had $3-$6 and $6-$12 Omaha-8 games going every time I have visited. They also usually have some $2-$4 going. Seems like I've seen $1-$2 games there too. Been a while since I've been to Commerce. Last time I was there they had $3-$6 and $6-$12 games going. Hawaiian Gardens Casino has $3-$6, $6-$12, and often $2-$4. The above is all an impression off the top of my head. If anyone has better information, please correct me. There are a couple of other places in L.A. county where poker is played, and Omaha-8 might be occasionally spread in these places, but the big six mentioned above all have Omaha-8 games going pretty much continuously - unless there has been some recent change of which I'm unaware.
