How often to raise pf?
How often should one be raising pf (assuming good starting hands)? Maybe this should be broken down further by position?

Re: How often to raise pf?
step 1: read holdem for advanced players by sklansky and malmuth.
basically you can start out by thinking of hands in terms of groups. group 1 is AA KK QQ JJ AKs, and it goes down from there. position is surely important when deciding when to raise, and the book discusses what kinds of hands you should be raising with from early position (groups 1 and 2) etc.. read the book! Not really the right question ...
... at least if I understand you correctly.
What constitutes "good starting cards" will vary so much according to the texture of the game, your position, the action prior to you, etc., that there is no correct answer for raising frequency - e.g. "15 percent of the time" or "20 percent" or what have you. Hold'em just isn't that mechanical a game. It might be help to post your degree of experience - how long you've been playing, what books you've read, what limits you play, etc. |

Re: How often to raise pf?
A single number doesn't tell you, amoung other things, in what position, with what cards, or against which opponents, to raise.
But, from what I have gathered from the PokerTracker stats discussions in the other formus, an aggressive winning player will be raising 6-10% of his hands before the flop. For a tight player, this means he will be raising somewhere around 1/3 to 2/3 of the hands he plays. My pfr% is about 6.5%, so I'm on the timid side.... |

Re: How often to raise pf?
I raise PF around 5 to 6% and do fine.
