QQ loses to KK - unlucky or bad play?
I'm inclined to think this was bad luck, but someone more experienced might disagree. I had a similar experience today when going all in with AA and the board showing nothing (in this case some idiot called my pre-flop raise with 23 unsuited, then called the all-in with an open-ended straight draw and hit - presume that was bad luck) :
----- HOLE CARDS ----- dealt to Emmitt [Qc Qd] snake9714: folds Wayn16011: calls 50 stevewon: folds Emmitt: raises 225 Rob051121: calls 225 wilias: folds wilias sits out Toyboy001: folds Wayn16011: folds ----- FLOP ----- [3c Jh 6c] Emmitt: bets 708 and is all-in Rob051121: calls 708 ----- TURN ----- [3c Jh 6c][5d] ----- RIVER ----- [3c Jh 6c 5d][Ac] ----- SHOW DOWN ----- Emmitt: shows [Qc Qd] (A Pair of Queens, Ace high) Rob051121: shows [Kh Kd] (A Pair of Kings, Ace high) Rob051121 collected 1991 from Main pot-- |

Re: QQ loses to KK - unlucky or bad play?
just unlucky imo.
With a smaller preflop raise (3*BB), you may be entitled to expect KK to reraise so he gets a feel for what's out there. But you probably would still put him on AK or the like and reraised right back at him. If you just call, then you probably still like the flop too much not to bet again (as you would find it hard to lay down QQ to his bet anyway) QQ runing into KK is always going to be too hard to get away from with that flop, you just lose and type in nh . A or K on flop at least gives you the chance to duck out if u read you're beat. G'Luck stoneii |

Unlucky in my opinion, and hard to get away from. Even if you'd have left it to him after the flop, he'd have no doubt got you allin after your PF bet.

[ QUOTE ]
I'm inclined to think this was bad luck, but someone more experienced might disagree. [/ QUOTE ] In order to determine if it was bad play for yourself, ask yourself how else you could have played it. I don't see much you could have done...you didn't limp in and get caught, you bet your strong hand in a strong fashion. If you'd made a less than all in bet on the flop, he would have come over the top and you never would have been able to get away from it, so the result would have been the same. Martin |
