Ax and the short stack
I am trying to figure out if this is a leak, incorrect or just poker. All thoughts and rationale appreciated.
You have 10-12 bb remaining as the multi tourney winds down to 2 or 3 tables. You hopefully have projected a tight aggressive image. You know you have to start taking some shots. You look down in MP and find, say, A-7. How about at final table with 10 bb? Is it time to make my stand and push? What about late position? Blinds? Button? Early position? |

Re: Ax and the short stack
I personaly don't care to make my final stand with A-rag. I would rather take my chances and see if a better hand comes along. When I'm down to 3 or 4 BB I'll play anything with an A or that otherwise looks good. A-rag is easily dominated and, of course, is a dog to any pocket pair. The only hope is to pair the A or win it with an A high. I assume, for the most part, that most players don't call all-ins with a rag in their hand so I don't account for your kicker pairing as a solid out. It's a tough call, but I'd rather wait untill the last minute.

Re: Ax and the short stack
I would only think about playing that in a steal situation. I would not play it for any value though.
That being said.... if you are in MP and no one has limped/raised and it gets to you, why not try and steal. Unless you think you will get called. Hands like A7 need to be first in if they have any shot at winning. However, I would not want to invest to much into this hand. I dunno, I would probably make a play if it was suited. |
