Is there anyway to get away from this?
Party Poker 1/2 Hold'em (9 handed)
Preflop: Hero is CO with 3[img]/images/graemlins/club.gif[/img], 3[img]/images/graemlins/heart.gif[/img]. UTG folds, UTG+1 folds, MP1 folds, MP2 folds, MP3 folds, Hero calls, Button folds, SB completes, BB checks. Flop: (3 SB) 3[img]/images/graemlins/spade.gif[/img], 9[img]/images/graemlins/diamond.gif[/img], 8[img]/images/graemlins/heart.gif[/img] (3 players) SB checks, BB bets, Hero calls, SB folds. Turn: (2.50 BB) 2[img]/images/graemlins/spade.gif[/img] (2 players) BB bets, Hero raises, BB 3-bets, Hero caps, BB calls. River: (10.50 BB) 6[img]/images/graemlins/club.gif[/img] (2 players) BB checks, Hero bets, BB calls. Final Pot: 12.50 BB BB turns over 88 for the higher set In a situation like this I don't think there is any way I can slow down on the turn. If I had been raised again on the river could I then give him credit for the higher set and just call (I guess I can be thankful that this was a weakish player who gave me a discount on the river - LOL). |

Re: Is there anyway to get away from this?
Well, you open limped from the CO with 33. Either raise with it (I don't recommend it unless the blinds and button are tight and capable of letting you steal), or fold because you aren't getting odds to flop a set. Calling here is very unprofitable.
As for the set over set, that's a very hard thing to get away from. If anyone folds on a board like this, they probably have ESP or divine powers or something. |

Re: Is there anyway to get away from this?
PF: I hate having a low PP in LP when it is folded to me, since one doesn't have the pot odds to call, and the implied odds suck, unless you know that at least a couple of players to act after you are terrible and will pay you off big if you hit your set. Consequently, sometimes I will muck this, sometimes I might just call, and other times I might even raise, and then decide what to do on the flop based on the number of players in and the nature of the flop.
Flop: Looks fine Turn: Looks fine River: You got off cheap! |

Re: Is there anyway to get away from this?
If you ever see me open limp from the CO please slap me.
The only place to get away here is preflop, after you see the 3 you're stuck. Be glad he wimped out on the river. |
