If he's so bad, why don't you guys ask him to play you in a $500 Limit Holdem freezeout...I'm 100% positive he'd oblige.
Go ahead, ask him... |

OK....it's just that he's a friend of mine, and I highly respect his limit HE play. He's playing on such a high level, that of course it makes no sense to you.

No, I've definitely seen him make some decent scores, but mostly at the 30/60 level.
His play is, ahem, "unorthodox." In a nutshell, it seems he's pushing the envelope when it comes to the theory that showing down rags gets you paid off when you've got the goods. Also, I don't think any normal person can really assess the Stars $100/200 when it's shorthanded. There's a lot going on, and most of it will appear questionable, at best. I think you know this already. Anyway, the guy DOES make some scores, I can assure you. HOW he makes these scores is often simply baffling, but you can't argue with success. OK. You can. Especially the dubious, debatable, uh, "arguable" kind. |

Something I've always found amusing about poker in any format is the progression through the limits.
Beginner: Plays random hands badly Intermediate: Tight, Aggressive, Predictable Advanced: Plays apparently the same as beginner. Here is an example I use to show my friends who are losing players why this is so, it may not be accurate, but you'll get the drift. Everyone folds to the CO who raises with K8o. The CO is fairly new to this limit and assumes that all high stakes players are tight players. The button has seen all this before, and so he calls with his A2s intending to win this on the flop. Small blind folds. Big blind has played with the button for some years and knows he likes to take on new players in this way, he 3-bets with his JQs knowing he might win this on the flop. New player is pot stuck and calls. Button works out what the big blind is up to and caps the pot, others call. Flop comes 237 rainbow. BB bets, to try to take the button out of the pot. New guy raises, his logic is that the big boys are trying to bully him. Button thinks and decides that he knows what the other two are up to and three bets. BB thinks and decides he has outs and calls. New guy folds. etc etc. Railbirds go wild "These guys are idiots, look at all that garbage" Lori |

[ QUOTE ]
Beginner: Plays random hands badly Intermediate: Tight, Aggressive, Predictable Advanced: Plays apparently the same as beginner [/ QUOTE ] Ostensibly, the important word in the above quote is "apparently." However, I think it gets way out of control, nearly to the degree that it makes no sense. Anyway, it's like the damned riddle of the sphinx: "What walks on 4 legs in the morning, 2 legs in the day, and 3 legs in the evening?" OK. It's not really like that at all. In fact, I never much cared for that stupid riddle. Forget I said it. |
