Default rules question re: showdown

What are the rules regarding when you have to show a losing hand at showdown? I'm curious because it seems completely random on Party. Sometimes I show losing hands, and sometimes I don't. It doesn't seem to depend on the betting but maybe I'm missing something.

Don't know Party but usually the last person to act shows first. The next player to his left would either fold or show a better hand. If everyone checks the river the first player shows first.

So you would be showing "losing" hands if you can beat the "current" best hand, but someone to your left THEN shows a better one.

So, this happened to me at a B&M. He bets, I called him, he showed a higher hand, I mucked.. Someone not in the hand requested to see my hand and the dealer showed him. Is this only because I acted last. Say i had beat him and he decided to muck would he have had to show his hand if requested?

Thanks

In most cardrooms a player can request to see a mucked hand if it makes it to showdown. Its usually considered bad etiquette, but is a allowable. It really has nothing to do with order of showdown as much as a nosey opponent.

You would show the losing hand at Party (or anywhere else) if you put in the last bet/raise on the river or nobody bet on the river and you are first to the left of the button.

Default \"Show me that hand\"

Cardrooms allow players to ask to see folded hands to help police possible colluders. Asking to see a folded hand is bad etiquitte because it indicates that the asker thinks the folder was colluding, or the asker is abusing this rule to get more information on his opponents.

In a B&M, I understood it to be,if it goes down to a showdown and the losing hand mucks, anyone has the option to see the mucked cards if they were paid for

After reading the responses it seems many places have different rules.

Id suggest finding out what they are before sitting in the game. if you go to a vegas casino or anywhere else just ask one of the dealers or better yet the floorperson but here are what i understand to be the rules regarding showing cards:

- losing player after calling final bet/raise has option to muck his cards if they don't beat the hand shown down.
- any ACTIVE player in the hand can ask to see losers cards and as long as they are not already in the muck it is allowable.
- winner has no obligation to show hand if nobody calls his final bet/raise.

thats basically it as far as i know with respect to card showing rules. it is bad ettiquite though even within the confines of the "rules"

questions? comments?
