Default Betting help for a noob

I'm a fairly new player who's just realized that while playing pot limit and no limit I'm totally clueless as to how to bet.

What are the rules? Should I keep to betting the limits or throw in a mixed number? It seems that regardless of what I do, I either get called when I bluff or others fold when I'm strong.

Any help would be great!

Get "Pot-Limit and No-Limit Poker" by Stewart and Ciaffone. It will give you a good run-down on what to consider when determining how to bet.

Then come back and post specific questions about hands you've played, situations you come up with, or general concepts you're having a hard time putting into use.
