Funny \"the gaming club poker\" V-day promotion
Just got this email from them. I'm not sure if everyone else will find it as funny as I did.
"IT'S A MATCH MADE IN HEAVEN... YOU AND $10 FREE! Dear Eugene, The Gaming Club Poker Room invites you to meet your match this Valentine's Day - 10 DOLLARS FREE! You'll score with a pair of Hearts when holding hands at one of our tables. To get your heart racing: 1. Play Poker at The Gaming Club Poker Room between 00:01 and 24:00 (EST), February 14, 2004. 2. You'll qualify for 10 DOLLARS FREE when you hold the Queen of Hearts and a second pocket card of the same suit (Hearts). 3. To claim your 10 DOLLARS FREE, e-mail your Alias, Poker Account and Game (Current) Number to hearts@gamingclubpoker.com. For the love of money, play at The Gaming Club Poker Room on Valentine's Day. " No matter how fancy someone writes about giving me a whole "less than half of a small bet free!" it's still just that. The gaming club guy: Here's my idea for the next V-day's "match made in heaven!" promotion I would like to receive... and it costs you $0! You have to find the most awful female calling station that plays at the high limits and give her a special invitation to play with the charming eugeneel heads up, at the 50-100 level. You will have to give the game a very special and romantic feeling so be creative... (make the table pink or something). Please let me know if this is possible, -Eugene |

Re: Funny \"the gaming club poker\" V-day promotion
The way I figure it you should get one once every 4 hours???
1/52 * 13/52 = .0049? per hand * 60 hands per hour = 29% cahnce per hour. Correct me if I'm wrong |

Re: Funny \"the gaming club poker\" V-day promotion
i think that as you can receive a Qhxh or an xhQh it's once every two hours, or $5 per hour average

[ QUOTE ]
i think that as you can receive a Qhxh or an xhQh it's once every two hours, or $5 per hour average [/ QUOTE ] Mike is right. To stop the risk of doing this kind of "combinations" mistake (which are easy done) you could try another approach, by calculating the chance of not getting it. It is not that straight forward to calculate, but the risk for doing the combination mistake is less. Chance of not getting the Qh in a two card hand: (51/52)*(50/51) = 0,962 Chance of getting it: 1-0,962 = 0,038 If one of the cards are Qh, the chance that the other is a heart is: 13/51 Chance of getting QhXh is: 0,038*(13/51) = 0,967% (*60 = 0,58 times an hour) This gives an EV of $5.8/HR. I think GC would attract more players if they formulated the promotion as "Get $5 free for every hour you play this weekend (max $50)", |

Re: Funny \"the gaming club poker\" V-day promotion
Nice calculation [ QUOTE ] "Get $5 free for every hour you play this weekend (max $50)" [/ QUOTE ] Accurate, but doesn't meet the brief which is a Valentine Day promotion, linked to a romantic theme. Perhaps they could say "Roses are red Violets are blue Get $5 free for every hour you play this weekend (max $50) As now you play poker all day no-one loves you" |

Re: Funny \"the gaming club poker\" V-day promotion
The promotion got 7.5% less worth. It should be 12/51, not 13/51. I always seem to count from 1-14 instead of 1-13 or 2-14. I guess you'd love to have me at your table.
If one of the cards are Qh, the chance that the other is a heart is: 12/51 Chance of getting QhXh is: 0,038*(12/51) = 0,894% (*60 = 0,54 times an hour) This gives an EV of $5.4/HR. |
