Default How many bets can you make it on the river w/o the nuts?

Or am I just way to weak?

Playing in a 3-6 game, where the button is also forced to post a 3 dollar blind that counts as the rake, I am dealt a 4 [img]/images/graemlins/diamond.gif[/img]5 [img]/images/graemlins/diamond.gif[/img] on the button. UTG raises, 3 players call, the small and big blinds are incredibly loose passive, so I am getting between 9 and 12 to 1 on the call. I call as do both buttons. Flop is 10 [img]/images/graemlins/spade.gif[/img]6 [img]/images/graemlins/club.gif[/img]3 [img]/images/graemlins/diamond.gif[/img], giving me a 3 flush and an open ender. Blinds check, big blind bets, two callers, I raise to try and buy a free card, blinds fold, UTG makes it three bets, two between us fold, I call.
Turn is an A [img]/images/graemlins/heart.gif[/img], killing all flush draws. UTG bets, I call.
River is a 7 making my straight. UTG bets I raise, he 3 bets I 4 bet, he 5 bets, I recheck the board, realizing that 89 would have me beat, but I see no way he could have played it that way, so I 6 bet. He 7 bets, and I call. How many bets would other people have been willing to take it too? He was one of the best players at the table, and I really couldn't have seen him playing his hand that way up to the river with an 89, but I started to doubt myself when he made it seven bets on the river.

Hey Kid,

Call his last raise. If what you claim to be true is in fact true, "he's one of the best players at the table", without a straight, he will clearly know he's beat. With this much action, I sense he has the nuts. Don't let anything surprise you too much, especially in these low-limit games.

By the way, fold preflop when faced with two bets holding s**t like 4-5s. I feel too many rookies get romanced with the idea that calling purely based on big odds preflop is good. It's NOT good when you hit your outs and are still beat. I hope he had aces. Good luck.

It's one bet to him preflop...he posted a $3 rake on the button which also counts as a blind bet. This turns a marginal call here into an easy one, IMO.
