Default Knocked out of a Multi.... anything I could have done?

Ok well I was playing in a $5+1 tournament on Party Poker. I walked into this hand, thought it was perfect, but obviously I was mistaken. I'm posting the hand history. The caller is the chip leader for the entire tournament, and the average was around 8000 chips. Where did I go wrong?

Why all-in on the flop after he calls your preflop raise? 5600 in the pot, you have over 15K left. A bet of 3500 makes it wrong to call with a draw or overcards. Your all-in makes it look like you want him to fold, making him less concerned that you have AA, KK, or JJ. The all-in also makes it more likely you'll only get called by hands that beat you.

hmmm, the outcome was tough to avoid here. Your problem is that a) you acted first pre-flop so got no idea how strong your opponent is -- while he called your bet given how many chips he has it doesn't really mean he has a monster hand. Perhaps if he acted first he would have made a fairly large bet and you could have folded. b) the flop was terrible for you given the situation since you clearly though you had the best of it and again, you acted first. If he acted first on the flop he probably would have been very aggressive since he wouldn't want anyone to wait around for an A or K on the turn/river, although you probably would have called anything with TPTK. It's one of those things and it's hard to avoid sometimes.

Think of it this way. Your preflop bet was good. You wantd to try to steal the blinds and if you got callers you could easily get away from a troubling flop. Knowing what he had I'm assuming he would have called any bet -- although one might argue given his chip lead that it wouldn't have made sense for him to call all-in. This would be an interesting decision/post.

You were done no matter what you did with that flop. If you check he bets big/all-in and you most likely call. If you bet less he probably calls you all-in. So the only possibility knowing the outcome is for you to bet all-in preflop; but that's a risky proposition too given your comfortable chip position.

NOTE: I just got busted out the twoplustwo afternoon $10 two table tournament with the same hand against the SAME hand although my decision was much worse than yours. I was short-stacked with about 2000 chips and raised 500 preflop with AJs (the blinds were either 100/150 or 150/200). Rhonda raises forcing me all. I thought about it and should have folded but I was pressed for time AND I was concerned with my chip situation (the leader had over 8k of chips) so I thought it was time to gamble and get back into this tournament if I could double up. Anyway, I made a terrible play given that I knew her to be somewhat tight from early play so she probably had JJ-AA, but I still called. She had QQ and an A never came. Pretty funny, same two hands. I wish it would have turned out differently for both of us <g>.

Fold preflop.

AJ is just not that strong of hand, especially out of position, which you were. Your stack is plenty big enough to wait for a better hand than this.

AJ is one of those hands that wins you a few small pots but can lose you the real big ones.

He's not wrong to try a steal with AJ I don't think preflop... the blinds were both smaller stacks. That close to the bubble (Climbrock busted out 2 away from the money), I would be trying to grab up blinds whenever possible... it's so easy to get away from a bad flop, unfortunately he just happened to hit it as well as possible and was up against QQ.

What do you think about the other guy's play?
