KQo hand -- raise the river?
Good 15-30 game online. I am unfamiliar with my opponent in this hand.
One limper, I raise in the CO with KQo no spade. The big blind and the limper call. The flop is K [img]/images/graemlins/spade.gif[/img]6 [img]/images/graemlins/spade.gif[/img]2 [img]/images/graemlins/spade.gif[/img]. The big blind comes out betting, the limper folds, and I call. The turn is 8 [img]/images/graemlins/diamond.gif[/img]. The big blind bets, I raise, he calls. The river is the Q [img]/images/graemlins/diamond.gif[/img]. My opponent bets. Raise or call? -Diplomat |

Re: KQo hand -- raise the river?
I would. He sure hasn't played it like a flush.
Sometimes, if he's a weak player, he'll have a small flush. He put you on AK w/the A [img]/images/graemlins/spade.gif[/img], and wanted to make sure a fourth spade didn't come. He could have played 88 or a flopped set this way, too, but most of the time, with this action, I think you'll have the best hand and he'll call your raise. If you're beat that's the breaks. |

Re: KQo hand -- raise the river?
Against unknown 15-30 players online I think this is a no-brainer raise. My reason for this is that I've seen too many weird plays and I'll take my chances he doesn't have a better hand than mine in these situations considering the action.

Re: KQo hand -- raise the river?
Since your opponent is unfamiliar, I wimp out and just call.
You don't know how tricky he is--would he stop and go with a flush or a set? |

Re: KQo hand -- raise the river?
I get a little bit nervous when people bet into me on the river HU after I raise them on the turn and they only call. Since I have no clue what he could have (QQ played weakly PF?, a baby flush?, K8?, etc.), I would probably just call.

I think that a raise is in order here. Something tells me you have the same hand, although, he probably had a redraw.

Re: KQo hand -- raise the river?
It's funny you say that, because that was the first thought that jumped into my mind. Which of course, if true, means I have to raise the river.

Re: KQo hand -- raise the river?
I think Gabe had the best answer for this one, although all the answers touched on things that I was worried about/considering. What was make or break for me on the river here is how scary my turn raise looks. When I called, I was sure I was being called by a flopped set. I think a baby flush would have tried to get fancy on the flop, or checkraising the turn.
I was suprized to find though that he held K [img]/images/graemlins/diamond.gif[/img]T [img]/images/graemlins/diamond.gif[/img] and I took it down. I think most people got his thinking right -- he wanted to make sure another spade did not come. To bad for him he was behind already. Against an unknown though I'm not sure how easy a river raise is. -Diplomat |
