Default Tournament Livin\'

It is the general consensus in the Beginners’ Forum that-- except for the absolute greats--no one lives off of tournament earnings alone. I’d be interested to hear from those of you do just this. In a nutshell, the line goes something like this: “because it can be a long time between victories, hardly anyone lives by these earnings alone.”

Is this right? I’d really appreciate if any answers could be posted in the BEGINNERS’ forum, as this seems to be the place where this question has life. Thanks.

By tournaments to you mean multi-player tournaments? I know at least two people who make their living by playing online sit-n-gos. They both play about 10-12 sit-n-gos a day, for 4-6 days a week on various sites, usually in the $50-$200 range. Both are excellent live players, and would have a chance on the tourney trail, but have families and choose to play and earn their living out of the comfort of their own homes. Both of them have been doing this for almost two years, and live pretty well.

Rick,

"Pretty well" can mean a lot of different numbers depending on where you live and where you set your sights "salary" wise. If you had to guess, what kind of ballpark salary does this work out to be for these two players you have in mind?

I am certain I will never quit my "day job" to play poker; I ask simply out of curiosity.
