Circus Circus Poker Room
I am going to be in Vegas this Thursday staying at Circus Circus and looking for some soft 4-8/5-10 games. I was visiting Circus Circus website and they say, "Voted as the "Best Poker Room in Las Vegas" by the Las Vegas Review-Journal critics". How are the games here, say on a Thursday night, should I expect anything out of the ordinary.
Thanks, SirRaleigh |

Re: Circus Circus Poker Room
Unless they changed from the last time I was there, you are going to see probably 1 3-6 game going. If you want more, TheMirage has 6-12 and Bellagio had 4-8, for the others, MC, Luxor, Mandalay, you need to travel to the other end of the strip.

Re: Circus Circus Poker Room
stayed there in early November and was my favorite
room. Quite friendly and well run. When you show up go to the room and find out if the the poker hotel room rate gives you a better deal. There is usually one or two 3-6 games and a 6-12 going, and a stud or Omaha. I only played the 3-6 which has a single $3 blind and usually from 10pm to midnight, when it was easy to beat. Rake is $3 plus 1$ for the bad beat Jack pot. I usually tip 0.50 for a normal size pot. They have some nice side pay, like a losing full hose gets $20. The bad beat jackpot was $35,000. For 2 hours of play you can ask for a comp, $4 which covered my breakfast or lunch, but I don't eat much. (Giant 18 inch hot dogs are $1.49.) The coupon book gives you $22 dollars in chips for $20 dollars it says only after an hour of play, but the poker room will give you it off the top when you buy in for $100. You can get an extra stack of small coupon books just by asking for them at the convince Market. Tell them you play the table games. One very nice deal is that when I showed up and they put me on the list. I asked if they could call my room when the seat was available and I would go take a nap. I don't think I ever waited more than a half hour. The room is right next to the main entrance door and is reasonably quiet. Its surrounded by a 8 foot glass wall, so the tourist can watch you play. Its a bit smokey but not to bad. Park in garage 2 on the third floor where you can walk directly into the Casino. Garage elevator did not always work. It is a short walk to either the Sahara or Stardust where there are more poker rooms. The $1.75 trolley stops just out side circus circus and will take you all the way down the strip. If the mono is up and running, you will be pretty close to the north end. O.K. back to the game. Usually, its got a couple of rocks, a couple of fish, an idiot, a couple of good players and you. Play exactly as in WLLH and you'll do fine. Once the table went on tilt when I was there with 9 or 10 players in every pot and one guy straddling. I was on a small bank-roll and knew I could not take the variance so I got out when I was even (actually I was up $100), but I was down $80 before the last pot I played! As you can tell I quite enjoyed (much to my supprise) staying at Circus^2. You may need to leave a trail of bread crumbs on your first visit as it is quite confusing. Look at the overhead signs for the word poker room to get to the strip side of the Casino walk the other way for parking or the "front desk". On the weekends it was filled with rug-rats. But, I stayed on the second floor near the beauty salon in non-smoking and it was very quiet, very clean close to the elevator. |

Re: Circus Circus Poker Room
Thanks for the post. I will be staying only 1 night so I think it will meet my needs. I will use your $2 coupon idea, hey, thats 2/3 a big blind I can use for another orbit. I like the lower limits 4-8/5-10, because I think I play better when I am not worried about risking much. You start playing 6-12 and up, and I start to play like a wuss, plus the competition tends to be better which makes for a bad combination.

The poker room at the Las Vegas Hilton scores well every year in the Review-Journal's "Best of" poll--even though they haven't spread poker in about 10 years! |

[/ QUOTE ] Yeah, not to be funny but you can't swing your arm in Las Vegas without hitting something that claims to have been rated "Best of" in the Review-Journal. They've probably given out 10,000 awards for everything you can imagine and every casino has a sign bragging that they have the best slots or the best slot club or the best restaurants or the best video poker or the best bingo and so on and so forth. |

Re: Circus Circus Poker Room
The bad: It gets smoky in there.
The good: One of the best (in my top 3) low-limit hold'em games in town. They also are very fast to start new games on swing shift. They and Excalibur are the best in Las Vegas at starting new games IMHO. Nothing's worse then being in a room that has long lists and they refuse to start a new game. Not exactly the Bellagio, but the games here are very soft and a lot of fun. Get a comp and hit the big pizzaria on the ground floor (it's in a cool sunken room). Mike, the brush on swingshift, is one of the best around. Best of Luck Howard |

Re: Circus Circus Poker Room
GET THE FOOD COUPON. You may say, well it's only $4, the heck with it. It is also a line pass so if you go for the buffet, you don't have to deal with the monster line.

Re: Circus Circus Poker Room
The Sahara a short walk down the Strip has a 1-4-8-8 spread game that is pretty easy and pretty loose you may want to check out.
