What limit should I play starting online based on my live experience
Not starting really. More like restarting. Some what smarter this time around.
Hello, first post. I joined Party months back, blinded by WPT glitter'n gold (how silly I was then), and after blowing $150 I had to straighten my sh1t out. I asked around for ways to better my game, from the higher limit people and final tables at big MTSnG tourneys. I was told Sklansky was the man to look into. I steped away from online play, I bought books, began reading, and switched to once a week live SnG's. Five months and four 2+2 books later I play live 3/6 hold'em once a week and have made up my lost online venture, my 2+2 reading investment, and money for christmas gifts. I'm returning to Party and my question is this. Should I start at the bottom, in $.5/1 and work my up to $3/6? Or stick to what I already play? I've read post that stress beating the lower levels b4 moving up. This why I asked. 65 |

I'm returning to Party and my question is this. [/ QUOTE ] Party has upped the rake since last time you played, maybe you should play somewhere else unril they see the light? How big is your bankroll? If it is 500+ I would suggest starting at 2-4 if not 1-2, then move up when warranted. |

Before you even play you could just observe the tables. However, I'd have to disagree with Havana...in my opinion 500 is not really enough for 2-4. I lost up to $300 in a day at 2-4 (but I suck). So I'd suggest jump into $1-2 first, and if things are going well move to $2-4. And read posts and post difficult hands in the small stakes forum.

If you are already playing 3/6 live on a regular basis, I have to assume you have a bit of dispossable income to dedicate to poker. I'd go ahead and find a nice sign up bonus, deposit enough for the max bonus (usually around $500) and start playing 1/2. Once you clear the bonus, if you are winning go ahead and move up to 2/4 and play there until you bankroll is big enough to make the move to 3/6 (I would suggest at least $1500)

Re: What limit should I play starting online based on my live experience
Online poker tends to be much tougher than the same level at a B&M room--usually to the tune of twice the stakes. What I mean is, players who play 10/20 live, will play 5/10 online, etc. So what you'll see is a group of players who are much better than what you're used to seeing live.
I usually suggest that one starts at half the stake they are used to playing live...with one exception: I don't recommed playing less than 3/6. At levels lower than that, the rake is way too high in comparison to the bet structure. (For most rooms, the max rake is $3. At 3/6 that's only one small bet, but at 2/4 that one-and-a-half small bets.----As a sidenote, I'm sure you'll notice that that's still better than the $4-6 rake taken out at many B&M rooms for 3/6 games.) So, I suggest you start with 3/6...but be cautious. If you're getting run over, go down to 2/4. Those will be more like the players you're used to playing with. But try to learn quickly enough to move up to 3/6. By the way, most online rooms have very tough 5/10 games and even worse 10/20 games. You'll want to have several hundred hours of "online" experience and a couple of thousand dollars before attempting to take on those levels. |

Don't go so low that it does not hurt to lose. When the level is chump change to you, it adds another layer of difficulty to your discipline.

This is terrible advice. When you start "hurting" from losses, tilt starts to become a factor, which is never good. I'd say play at the highest limit where you can walk away unaffected by wins/losses from a session. If you play solid poker, the winning will take care of itself. When you start concerning yourself with how much you're up or down, your focus gets skewed. When the level is chump change to you, it adds another layer of difficulty to your discipline. Once again, bad advice. If you play too high, all you're doing is trading one discipline for another. IMO, tilt is much harder to overcome than overcoming the "chump change" mentality. Cup |

Calculating the rest of your statement, you've made $270($150 loss @Party and 4 2+2 books @$30)in 5 months of live 3/6 + ?(insert gift cost here) So what's your current BR? How much do you bring to your live 3/6 game? Your statement above leads me to believe that you should start out at 1/2 with a minimum deposit of $200. Any particular reason you have picked Party as the site to play? Are you seeking to "get back" your losses ($150) from earlier? There are many, many, online sites that have high flop/fish % at the lower limits, don't just keep your blinders on in regards to Party. |

$4-$6 rake on a live $3/$6 game??? Where in the heck have you all been gouged on???
All the live casino games 3/6 4/8 etc around here only rake $3 MAX (less if not a full table) per hand... so I don't know where you are getting 4-6 lol |

Re: What limit should I play starting online based on my live experience
depends on your bankroll. if you're not prepared to put $1500 or so into online poker, don't play 3/6 or higher.
