aces in the small blind
I don't like how I played this hand. Online 5-10
I have aces in the small blind. UTG+1 open-raises, next player 3 bets. Folded to me, I think about capping but decide to call. No cap, so 3 of us see the flop for 3 small bets. UTG+1 is a decent player I respect. not fantastic, but a solid player. Flop comes J J 3 rainbow. UTG+1 bets out, next guy raises. now I know that he'll make that raise with hands I beat like QQ and KK so I smoothcall to see what happens next. Now UTG+1 reraises, next guy just calls, and I just call. Turn is another 3, UTG+1 bets out, next player folds. I think and fold as well. As soon as I folded I don't like it. he'd try to represent the jack with any overpair and I think I should have called him down. Was the fold right? Should I have found a raise to test him? Would he have waited until the turn to pop it if he really had a hand like AJ? The more I think about it, the more I think I folded to kings. -Scott |

Re: aces in the small blind
Since you believe he would try to represent the Jack with an overpair or other hand you're ahead of, I think you should raise the turn. If he reraises you, there, you might have a problem. If he just calls, you're probably ahead. This all depends on exactly what you know about the other player, though.

Re: aces in the small blind
It doesn't not seem right to fold here. It will only cost
you at most 2 BBs to see the hand through. The chances of your opponent having KK or QQ as opposed to a hand with a jack is surely bigger than the odds offered by the pot. On the other hand, if you had KK you may not necessarily call the hand down if you were pretty sure this player could not have QQ (and thus, could only have KK, AA or a jack). |
