6- Handed river value bet?
Gaming Club 1/2 Hold'em, 6-Handed
Just sat down, no reads. Hero is the button with A[img]/images/graemlins/heart.gif[/img] 9[img]/images/graemlins/spade.gif[/img] UTG folds, EP limps, MP folds, Hero raises, SB calls, BB calls, EP limper calls Four to the flop for 8SB: J[img]/images/graemlins/spade.gif[/img] 7[img]/images/graemlins/spade.gif[/img] T[img]/images/graemlins/spade.gif[/img] SB checks, BB checks, EP checks, Hero bets, SB calls, BB folds, EP calls Three to the turn for 11SB: A[img]/images/graemlins/club.gif[/img] SB checks, EP checks, Hero bets, SB calls, EP calls Three to the river for 8.5BB: A[img]/images/graemlins/spade.gif[/img] SB checks, EP checks, Hero checks behind Do I have a value bet on this river? What if the board hadn't paired, making it more likely a higher flush would raise me? It just seems that if someone did hold the blank K[img]/images/graemlins/spade.gif[/img] and they were pretty tight-passive, which many players at this limit are, this is exactly the way they would be likely to play it, with a probably c/r on the river. Thoughts? Incidentally, the results are in white below: I show my hand and the other players muck (because of the stupid showdown system on The Gaming Club, I don't see what hands they held). |

Re: 6- Handed river value bet?
I think we can safely discount the possibility of a full house based on the action. Therefore, you only really fear the K and Q of spades. You stated that you thought the bare K would likely go for a CR on the river, but that seems doubtful to me if these players hold any skill whatsoever. The 4 flush on board tends to lessen the chance of a CR because of the high probability that you would check behind (as you did).
So, I think you have an argument of discounting even the King in most circumstances and I think you have a clear value bet here. The other players will make a crying call with any spade here, especially at this limit where the money means very little and your opponents do not lay down many "hands". I believe this is a clear value bet. I certainly would have bet third semi-nut here. soda |

YOU HAD NO VALUE BET. YOU DID THE RIGHT THING BY CHECKING. LJH

Re: 6- Handed river value bet?
No value bet? Fair enough, but why not? Do you believe that worse hands will not call here in this game? Do you believe the chance of a checkraise negates the extra money gained by a value bet here?
I'm interested to hear your reasoning. Thanks, soda |

Re: 6- Handed river value bet?
i think this is an easy bet - 2 pair will sometimes pay to see your flush - not to mention 3 aces and smaller flushes - i will obviously call a check raise - i've seen players check raise smaller spades than third best so i'm not too fussed
in a good game this is an even bigger value bet stripsqueez - chickenhawk |

Re: 6- Handed river value bet?
So, I read this post and thought it was a really good question. Then I read the responses and realized you had the 9 of spades. Bet.
